About Stephen Jay

Bio

Stephen Jay is a composer, bassist, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist. Fluent in conventional scoring techniques and a full range of musical styles, Stephen specializes in combining ethnic and modem instruments to create a blend of the exotic and contemporary. He has scored more than seventy nationally broadcast PBS specials and series episodes, including three George Foster Peabody Award winners, and contributed to feature films. His background includes several years in West Africa studying instrumental folk music and studies with composers John Cage, Lucas Foss, Max Neuhaus and Charles Wuronien. His bass recording credits include 3 Grammy winners and 9 Grammy nominated albums. He is the credited bassist on 8 Gold and 5 Platinum albums (RIAA). Stephen's field recordings of West African music can be heard on the Nonesuch Explorer series.

Cindy	Jul 17 2008 5:30 AM Good morning Steve, Thank you for the add. We saw you at Meadowbrook NH again. Love you guys. My 17 year old son has been playing bass for about 4 years now. He had fun peeking up over the stage checking out your basses. He noticed that one of them was an 8 string. Assuming he was correct, I can not imagine how you can wrap your fingers around a neck that large. My son figures his own fingers would not reach. We love your shows. We have such fun. As often as you play anywhere in New England we will be there. (Meadowbrook is the best though) Thank you for all your work and putting up with the bus rides. Cindy
