"...propuesta musical de dificil etiquetaje pero con claras intenciones progresivas y rupturistas. Cuatro ásperos temas que intentan huir de territorios ya explorados por numerosas bandas indie españolas para crear un universo sonoro propio. A destacar su primer corte, 'Lick' en el que aúnan de manera sorprendente psicodelia, noise y rock progresivo." (Mondosonoro)
"From their first few seconds they made you sit up and pay attention". (Evening Post)

In 2008, the infamous Aye Aye lemur arrived at Bristol Zoo. Its presence in the city is significant because of its history, its future and its reputation. Story and myth shroud the nocturnal Madagascan primate. Its very presence instils fear in the native communities and its consequent demonisation and massacre has decimated the species to the brink of extinction. However as yet, no such fate has greeted the latest migration of Aye Aye. The second arrival in 2008 was no less profound, but was the culmination of a journey started in Salamanca, Spain. This time three lemurs made the journey to Bristol. Brothers Pablo & Juan Mestres along with Edu Vizan Tascon were drawn to the city’s diverse music scene to establish a reputation and to develop their identity. The adoption of a fourth Lemur, Nick O’Neill in 2008 completed the family and their sound continued to develop. Evolution not extinction now faces Aye Aye…
Aye Aye (pronounced aje aje)’s progressive sound provides a unique perspective on psychedelic rock. Pablo combines spontaneous guitars with seductive storyteller chants which are powerful, intimate and laced with intelligent irony. Playing games with his words he moves from delicate sentiments to explosive rants. Edu’s awkward atmospheric synth soundscapes lay the foundation for Aye Aye’s distinctive sound. His haunting, at times sinister organ belies angelic orchestral keys creating a divine tension. The dynamic combination of Juan’s spicedelic bass and Nick’s percussive foraging, drive the sound with rhythmic purpose.
This fusion of progressive, psychedelic melodies and tectonic rhythms reflects the dark and unpredictable personality of the lemur, providing an energetic and truly memorable live experience.
The concept of the Aye Aye first manifested in Spain in 2005 as a surrealist theatre group using live music as an integral component of their performances. Aye Aye’s passion for music led to them reforming solely as a band in 2007 and subsequently recorded their first EP in Madrid in June of that year. Shortly after the Lemurs arrival in Bristol, their potential was realised by industry professionals when their first EP beat those of 60 other acts to free win studio time at the prestigious Toybox Studios. This presented the opportunity to record a second EP with experienced engineers who have worked with the likes of Portishead, PJ Harvey, The Kills & Mark Ronson amongst others. Their first EP was also elected the 7th best EP of 2008 by the prestigious Spanish music magazine, Mondosonoro (North-west edition).
Now in 2009 the Bristol natives have received Aye Aye with increasing interest and the band have become the chosen local representatives, supporting several touring acts from America including Portugal The Man and Hecuba to name but a couple. The four lemurs seek to consolidate their growing popularity with the imminent release of their second EP with a view to spreading their music further still, in the UK, Spain and beyond.
