Azal – music from eternity
Azal – time immemorial, from the very beginning! The very name has a ring to it.
What does one think about when a group of young musicians says we’re Azal? Does
the name say it all? Or does it conceal many a mystery?
Azal is a musical band that seeks to make a niche for itself in a world of music
that has a majority of amateurish, one-off-hit-wonders artists. And that’s where
they’re different, though the word ‘different’ has been so overused that it has
almost lost its meaning.
Azal comprise four ebullient young men: Ali Rajab, Ehtesham (aka ET), Samir and
Shabi. Their aim is to enter the music world by making a difference, and not for
the heck of it. That’s precisely why their debut album which is soon to hit
music stores, contains an eclectic offering that is anything but soft, cotton
candy pop stuff. Azal are a serious bunch.
The album has 10 songs, sung by Ali Rajab and ET. The marked feature of almost
all numbers is ingenious compositions. It appears that not only creativity but
also a lot of thinking has gone into the making of all the numbers on the album.
The maturity of vocals and polished musical arrangements, no mean feats by any
manner of means, compliment the amazing tunes. This could not have been
accomplished had members of the band not been trained professionals. Take for
example, Ali Rajab, who hails from an illustrious musical family, the Gwaliar
Gharana. When he croons out a song, one can readily detect the element of
classical training behind his sonorous voice.
What works as a perfect foil for Ali Rajab is ET’s refined voice that has a hint
of youth and liveliness which can be readily associated with modern-day musical
trends. His boyish vocals commensurate with Ali Rajab’s mature voice and conjure
musical magic. Shabi’s contribution is equally, if not more, valuable. All
compositions on the album are his brainchild. Not only does he compose well but
his arrangement is also top notch.
Samir’s groovy bass guitar compliments Shabi’s compositions in such a way that
the renowned musician appears completely in sync with the other three members of
the band.
