Azmyth is the brainchild of brothers Tim Downey, and Tyler Downey. The band was formed in 2002 when the two finally decided to make music together. In 2003 they got with a bassist named Brook Chavous. The band played several shows, and wrote songs such as "What it means to me", "Karma", and "Blackdirt". The brothers then decided to move back down to their birthplace, Ocala, Fl. This was a whole new twist for the band. It required them to get new people and take the band in very different directions.
In late 2005 the band changed their name to "Revolve Endure". This was to signify their feelings on society, and the way things are in the world. They joined forces with several musicians during this venture such as future Azmyth bassist Noel Bass (Who rejoined the brothers from 2008-2009.)
The members of Revolve Endure then went their seperate ways. The band remained Revolve Endure for two more years until late 2007 when the brothers joined forces with Zach Thomasson, and Jon Feagin. This would be yet another new group of people to work with for the brothers. The music was better than ever, and even returned back to its root sound, which drove it when it first began. Intense, abstract vocals overlaid heavy rock n roll riffs. This lineup would run all the way from 2007 to late 2008. During this run they played many shows, which capitalized on stage presence, killer covers, and just right out loud music. The music during this period was referred to as "Nirvana like" due to its originality. During this period songs such as "Lawdogs","With You", "Sex", and "Skin on Skin" were written.
After Thomasson's departure came Feagin's departure in August of 08. This left the brothers without anyone, but they ran with the idea and just began writing. During this time Tim used his personal woes, and experiences to write music that related to everyone. "If you listen to these songs all in order its the last 8 months of my life" remarked Downey publicly in February of 2009. In this period of time Downey wrote songs such as "A-Train", "Sleeping with yourself tonight", "Another one down" and many others. During the 2008 Annual Birthday Bash, Noel Bass sat aside and practically played along with all the songs during Azmyth's set.
In November of 2008 Noel Bass came down to Blackdirt Studio to catch up and hang with the brothers. This lead instantly to the rehearsal room, where they wrote 3 or 4 songs in one day at one point. This opportunity was too good to pass up. Noel then agreed to help the brothers out with performances. The new Azmyth debuted at the 2009 Peace Rock gig. At this gig they opened with "Sail Away", which was written two days prior to the gig. They then got up for an encore and performed "Revolve Endure". With the success of this gig came a feeling that they should take the band to a new level. Since then they have played several shows and several venues.
In may of 2009 Tim walked into a Kangaroo store in which he said to the young cashier, "If you know anyone who plays any instruments send them my way". Two or three nights later Tim returned to the same store to find a sticky note that read "Ditto". The band's management then got in touch with former Lunar Red bassist, Sean Ditto. Sean's laid back persona, and cool vibes has been refreshing to the band. Sean soon joined the band to play rhythm guitar. Ditto then joined the band onstage for the first time at the 2009 Blue Crab Festival.
In June of 2009 the band parted ways with Noel Bass for a third time due to his commitment to another band. The band did not let this get them down however, as soon after that they stumbled upon great talent in Jesse Highsmith. Jesse was the head man of Lunar Red. Highsmith was down a day after Noel left the band. The band sounded the tightest it had ever sounded according to Downey. It has also opened up a lot of doors for the band.
As of late June 2009 the band is being looked at by several promotion companies, and record companies. Their brief success has come, but not without hard work, and commitment. "Some people just have it, and some people just don't" referred Downey recently.
The band looks to bring true music back to form. Music that has meaning, and just doesn't follow a trend. They want to change the face of music back to what it was originally. They also want to bring a big show, with massive stage presence, as they feel that is what a lot of bands lack to this day.
Azmyth has always been known for Tyler Downey's massive drumset, his monstrous thundering sound, their killer rock riffs, their thick fat bass, their familiar leads, and their grungy vocals with emotion that are abstract.
Be sure to come check out Azmyth's antics on stage, you wont be disappointed! Their show consists of heavy crowd involvement, and involves extremely high energy.
"A new religion is born! It is called Azmyth!" - Shawn from American Attitude
"Lyrics that either make you laugh or think"
