About me: Senora Lola Pistola is the co-founder of VivaVoom Brr-Lesque and the dynamic vocalist of Lola Pistola & the Band O'Leers, the sometimes 8-piece band who travels with VivaVoom Brr-Lesque.
This Aztec priestess can melt dark chocolate with one explosive smile, and brings mere mortals to their knees with her voluptuosity. You can find her tippling tequila while trifling with suitors’ affections. Of course you’ll find her dazzling, but don’t become too attached -- Lady Lola’s Piscean whimsy makes it difficult to set the hook.
Lola has been singing since she can remember. She began her performance career in grade school pageants and moved into the world of opera by age 12. By the time she was 13, Lola knew she was a Diva, in the truest sense. She wanted to travel the world singing arias and wearing luxurious fabrics. She wanted to experience the leisure of a Diva’s life: sleeping until noon and visiting beautiful places. This was Lola’s dream until she discovered Rock music and cigarettes (not to mention Tequila and Vodka). After joining a Rock band and winning a talent contest, Lola decided to be a Diva on her own terms, still sharing her vocal talents, sleeping until noon and making her own outrageous everyday costumes, but adding a party aspect to an otherwise stringently disciplined existence. As a ripe young enthusiast of 19, Lola felt the burning desire to take her vocal and theatrical performances to a large city that would welcome and encourage her. She left and came back, disappointed in the fast-paced, flash-in-the-pan life she found outside of Alaska. Since then, Lola has left Anchorage many times and each time Lola comes home to Alaska, finding the best artistic opportunities, friendliest people, and widest fan base at home. The fact is, Alaskans are starving for great art and most of them know truly great art when they experience it.
From the time that Lola began performing on stage, she has delighted and moved audiences with her sexy and soulful alto, not to mention her unique dance style. She has performed everything from Folk and Rock to Jazz and Swing; singing with coy confidence and writing with wit and honesty. She has made forays into runway and photo modeling and dinner theatre, and has appeared in many stage productions. Lola made a ten-year long first career as an on-air personality for Jazz and Alternative Rock stations. Her second career began about six years ago, when she decided to be a Registered Nurse. Lola is no stranger to speculation and enterprise. So, when her last band broke up, she decided to take the plunge, along with partner Cuba Libre, into the world of burlesque, something the two of them had been discussing for years.
Bada bing. VivaVoom was born.
Lola believes in being a big fish in a little pond. VivaVoom is so big, even the mayor of Anchorage knows who they are.
Lola sings, emcees, dances, and entertains with VivaVoom. She is in charge of Sound Design and helps the troupe with choreography. At times, she plays Marketing Liaison, Director, Ringmistress and Mama to this coquettish coterie. But most important of all, she takes pleasure in watching VivaVoom enchant and captivate their audiences.
Who I'd like to meet: Any and all performers of burlesque, circus, and music. Any and all afficionados of all of the above. Any and all promoters of the above.

At the very least I will see you next year at MEW (hopefully, yes?). And there actually may be a trip to AK in the future - a rich old friend of my father owns land in Anchorage, but doesn't remember where it is. He told my father if he can find it he can have it. No joke. Strange, right?
