In 2005 Azuka Theatre launched its educational/outreach program (Stages in Education) at William H. Bodine High School in Philadelphia. This ten-week program focuses on the development and staging of new plays created and performed by the school’s students.
Azuka Theatre knows the impact theater can have on young minds; we continue to see the amazing development of the students we worked with. Our goals for this program remain two-fold: to introduce theater arts to the students of Bodine High School and to establish in the minds of these young students the power and pleasure one can derive from live theater, thus helping to create the audiences of tomorrow.
We plan to use this program as a model that can be taken to other schools in the Philadelphia region, allowing students from all over the city to reap the benefits from our experience as well as the positive results that arts education has been proven to provide.
