Music
I <3 The Kimberly Trip. Also, Depeche Mode fan for 22+ years! My tastes are eclectic... music from the 80's and early 90's tend to be my favorite, but I like techno, trance, dance and house (especially from the UK); metal; rock from 1950's to today; old school; nerdcore; industrial; comedy and novelty records (Dr. Demento, anyone?); pre-1980 country music; folk; disco; opera; classical; swing; jazz & acid jazz. Do not care for the Beatles, modern rap/R&B (with a few exceptions), modern country or musical soundtracks (again, with a few exceptions). I enjoy escaping the local "music" scene by heading for Sacramento to experience good bands playing clever music.
Movies
I like a wide range of movies. Hooray for Netflix, as I can actually watch them without being subjected to rude people in the theatres talking, using their cell phones, or letting their obnoxious children run rampant and ruin things for the rest of us who shelled out $30 for two tickets and refreshments. Now I just need a bigger TV. My favorite genres are comedy, romance, and sci-fi/fantasy. I enjoy movies from Japan (their horror films are more psychological than the blood-and-carnage stuff from the US). Our Netflix queue is usually maxed out (500 titles). Yes, my favorite movie really is Xanadu.
Television
The majority of programs broadcast today are a waste of the airwaves they're transmitted on. I enjoy one or two shows (Doctor Who being one of them), but most of what I watch is news and movies, or shows from the UK. Cable wasn't worth the cost -- I'm so glad I ditched it!
Books
Le Comte de Monte Cristo is perhaps my all-time favorite (would that I could read it in the original French). Authors I enjoy include Mercedes Lackey, Piers Anthony and Dean Koontz. Sci-Fi/Fantasy is my favorite genre, tho I do succumb to things like books from/about Japan, vampires, mysteries and the unknown. I also read prior months' selections from my mother's book club, would spend hundreds of dollars on manga if my husband would let me, and have been known to frequent the New Age section of the bookstore as well. If I'm interested in a subject, I tend to purchase several different books about it, all at once. Have you seen my Amazon.com wish list??
would-be author, working on a Yet Another Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre novel...
Minikin is hanging out on Facebook, these days. While I have friended the majority of you, I can't find some of you on there... Posted at 2:20 AM Oct 24 view more
You are the Gothic Princess. You love black and evil things. Take this quiz!
Cynical, sarcastic bitch with a tendency to say more than I should, a penchant for avoiding socialization with others, a desire to talk to interesting people mixed with - oddly enough - a severe shy streak. (I've got the people-watching wallflower act down pat.) Most people don't understand my sense of humor. I have a low tolerance level for slow drivers and stupid people. The world is overrun with both.
Who I'd like to meet:
people? ehh... probably not. If I don't know you IRL, or don't already know you (or of you) from some other online community or chatroom, then I'm likely going to be a bitch and say "Go away. KTHXBAI!" Nothing personal - I'm just not one to go out of my way to meet previously-unknown people online. The concept of "s/he who has the most MySpace friends, wins" is lost on me, I'm afraid.
So I JUST started and finished watching one of my new shows, Entourage, and there was an episode that NO ONE except you would understand the inside joke.
The interview went great but the scheduling was off. By the time I talked to my Professor and got back to him, they already hired all positions...so I have to wait again! :( But I took the test for PG&E and they will call me back in 3 weeks to let me know if I passed or not. Keeping fingers crossed.
Happy birthday! I hope you have a fantastic day. Treat yourself to something special.
