Azure was created in 1995 by Robban Kanto. After releasing four demos and the MCD “A Vicious Age Lasting” as a three-piece Robban decided it was time to move on by his own. He recruited Mattias Holmgren (Embracing, ex. Naglfar) to play session drums. They got signed to the cult label Solistitium Records (Behemoth, Helheim etc) for their debut album, which was recorded in January 1998 but due to various circumstances it wasn’t released until a year later.
Shortly after the release of “Moonlight Legend” Solistitium was put on ice, and without a contract, so was Azure.
However, in April 2004, Robban got a phone call from Mattias telling him to start composing some new material has he had access to studio time. So in June that same year four new tracks was recorded and sent out to labels around the world. An offer was made by Karmageddon Media so in September Robban once again traveled the 900 km to Umeå to record the eight songs written. The album was guested by the prominent guitar players Ulph Johansson, Ronnie Björnström (Taedeat, Bone Gnawer, Hate Amo etc) and Nils Norberg of Nocturnal Rites for leads.
When everything was ready to be released Karmageddon Media had to cancel the deal as they were bankrupt after the whole Chuck Schuldiner lawsuit.
It took a couple of months and lot of effort, but in December 2005 the album “King of Stars – Bearer of Dark” finally was released by not one, but two labels! Deathgasm Records bought the rights for the US territory and Pulverised Records handled the rest of the world.
Already in April 2006 Robban was once again in Umeå for a short visit, a few riffs were also rehearsed but nothing was ever recorded. Time flew and they both had other matters to deal with so for a third time Azure was put on hold.
…But…
In late August 2009 Robban arrived at Mattias place for an internship at his company Morningdew Media. At the same time he started recording some demo tracks and writing new material for another album. At this point drums, guitar and bass has been recorded for three songs…
