I was born in Gunnedah (NSW, AUSTRALIA), grew up in Curlewis, a small town with about 100 kids at the local primary school. These towns are neighbours of the Country Music Capital of Australia (Tamworth). My passion for music was inspired by the first tape i brought, Gun's 'n' Roses - Illusions and listen to my families records. I started learning guitar when i was 10 years old and growing my hair to be like Slash. Around this time i was diagnosed with a rare liver disease that was very serious. In my teenage years i focused on heavy metal, classical guitar and playing in my band 'Gallows'.
It was around 1995, that i was first captured by electronic music, i can remember the moment clearly, travelling from Gunnedah to Tamworth in my cousin's Commodore with a big sound system, i was half asleep listening to his 'Dance Mix of 95', the track that caught me was the 'X-FILES' remix and then i discovered DEF-FX, Peewee Ferris and Hocus Pocus - Here's Johnny! I went to my first club in Sydney - Sublime in Pitt st, and was a regular at the 'Boiler Room' Big Day Outs, eventually spending most of my time in there and not seeing the rock bands anymore.
Now i've over-come my liver disease and depression through natural therapies and a holistic approach to mind, body and soul. I have more energy, creativity and passion for music than ever.
I have moved from the dry west to the lush north coast nsw where i completed a Bachelor of Multimedia. i live near the beach with my beautiful partner, near Coffs Harbour. Im also working a full time job, its kinda like social work, so im pretty busy, but luvin it!
Get ready to be taken on a musical journey that will have you grooving all night. DJB9 started guitar lessons at 10 years of age. He's studied classical guitar; played drums, bass, keyboards and guitar in a variety of bands, from heavy metal to R'n'B. He was seduced by the electronic side in his teenage years, and started producing tracks from as early as 17 years old. His DJ skills evolved much later, and expanded to cover all the mediums including vinyl, cds, and software. In recent, he has worked with some of the industries finest including Endorphin, Ryan Murgatroyd, Jackie Onassid, DJ Fiesty. DJB9's production and DJ styles include techno, electro, progressive, tribal, minimal, tech, breaks and ambient. He rips it up on stage with live electronic band, Alter Native.
Since 2006, DJB9 has released original tracks and remixes on international labels Second Session Recordings and Grooved Music, with some of his own tracks being remixed by Ryan Murgatroyd, Adrian De Cleir, Elite Superstars and Afrostatic. In 2007, DJB9 was featured 2 separate times on Australia's Number 1 National Radio Station, Triple J, with massive full length DJ Sets that included hot unreleased tracks and original tunes.
From 2005 - 2006, DJB9 worked with kids in Juvenile Justice, helping them tell their stories through music. Teaching the fundamentals of song writing, performance and production, they worked together to write and record a full album.
