Hailing from Dakar, Senegal, Moussa Sall, better known as Baay Musa, is an incredibly versatile hip hop artist and singer, or 'chanteur' as they are known in French. The musical traditions of Senegalese culture had a heavy influence him growing up, especially since his family and cousins were members of the famous Senegalese Afrobeat group Waflash. However out of of all of the musical styles that surrounded him, he felt the greatest connection with hip hop. He helped to found one of the most influential hardcore hip hop groups in the history of the scene in Senegal: Wageble (www.wageble.com), which translates into 'ghetto' in English. Moussa loves hip hop above all, and strongly believes in the importance of staying true to yourself, your people, your culture, your family, and your roots. For him, hip hop is the means by which he can both express himself artistically and work for a positive political difference in the world. He has been featured on several international hip hop compilations alongside some of Africa's best hip hop groups. Over the past year, he has toured across the United States with the famous African Hip Hop label Nomadic Wax and the up and coming band 'African Underground All Stars'. An accomplished performer and presenter, Baay Musa has performed and participated as a panelist and lecturer at high schools, universities, and community centers across the US including the Trinity College International Hip Hop Festival (www.trinityhiphop.org), Tufts University Hip Hop Conference for Social Change, Marywood University Hip Hop for Social Change Conference, and many more. He has performed alongside up and coming international hip hop stars including Blitz the Ambassador (Ghana), BocaFloja (Mexico), Eternia (Canada), Sam The Kid (Portugal), Sabreena Da Witch (Palestine), Narcy (Iraq), La Bruja (Puerto Rico) Rebel Diaz (USA/Chile/Puerto Rico), Meta and the Cornerstones (Senegal), Krukid (Uganda), Babaluku (Uganda), Zimbabwe Legit (Zimbabwe), and more. He is a star of the groundbreaking new documentary film 'African Underground: Democracy in Dakar' (www.democracyindakar.com)and has participated in numerous film festivals and conferences alongside this film. Inbetween touring and taking care of his beautiful daughter Penda, Baay Musa is preparing his first album in several years which will incorporate all five of the languages that he speaks, and the various musical styles that influence his art. This album is one of the most long awaited international hip hop albums and promises to a music project to-which people of all backgrounds will be drawn.
and Spanish). He is working right now on his first solo album which will share the struggle and the pain of his journey from Africa to the US. In his own words, "music is the only way and Ja Allah will guide as we follow. Peace and Love, Jaam ak salam in the lives we lead. Wa Salam."
