About me:
I love my Dyson vacuum and I love talking about it. I've had my Dyson for 10 years now and it's still working fine. In case yours doesn't, here are some tips to repair your Dyson:
If you have used your Dyson recently on plaster and sanding dust, this can clog the filters of the bagless Dyson type, so empty it and see if they should need cleaning or replacing, especially if pick up or suction isn't what it should be. Some have washable filters (Dyson DC04 & DC07). The filters on the DC01 are now washable a couple of times.
On Dysons, check the beater bars regularly for any carpet threads or something similar, wrapped around it. If you rmove this regularly, it can stop a build-up that may otherwise mean the removal of the beater assembly and the sole-plate. Even tiny objects can cause it to jam, and damage the belt badly.
If yours becomes intermittent, see it's not a damaged plug or lead. If you can make it go by stretching the cable at certain points, like nearer to the plug, or where the cable comes out of the vacuum, it may have a break in the cable. If this is in the first four inches or so, near the plug, then u can cut this off & strip and rewire into a replacement one. Make sure it is the rubberished sort, (for appliances like vacuums, where the plug might be dropped every now and then).
On a Dyson, if the vacuum wand is stiff going back into the hose, it could possibly be dust in the coils, or damaged/distorted hose coils. Try to spray a bit of polish on the wand, and see if the Dyson filter becomes better. If not, replace the hose.
