BABY CHANN
Chenelle Williams- Emanuel aka Baby Chann born in North West London, then moved to West London and then back to North West London. Chann grew up mostly with her Mother from mixed parentage of Dominican, English and South American and her father hailing from Kingston Jamaica.
Chann as most of her friends called her makes one third of the UKs bnumber one dancehall group SUNCYCLE! The group consists of Dolamite (CEO, producer / artist), Lante (artist).
Channs roots were based in Reggae music as her father was a soundman in a very successful sound, and also her uncle.
In her early days as a youngster Chann showed an extreme interest in music, so her mother groomed her and found out that Chann was particularly interested in the piano and other instruments. Her mother Lorna groomed this and enabled Chann to take up Piano lessons, flute lessons and drum lessons. The list of instruments that Chann learned to play in total was the trombone, recorder, French horn also!!! Then at the age of 8, everyone became aware that Chann could also sing, so at this tender age she became a member of her primary school choir and her academic day was split into singing rehearsals and normal academic studies.
Chann studied performing arts at college and obtained a distinction in acting, music and dance. Chann always was a tomboy and a lot of her influences were male, especially in the reggae field such as Bounty Killa, Beenie Man, Shabba Ranx, Cobra, Capleton. Females such as Janet Jackson, Lady Patra also made Chann aware of what talent it took to achieve success in the music bizz, and that’s when Chann started experimenting with MCing, she kept it quiet at for a long while as at that time it was more of a male dominated craft!!!
Chann stuck with combining ‘spitting’ with vocals and started to get a positive response, in which that led her to forming with Suncycle as one of the newest members. Dolamite appreciated her work ethic and commitment. Chann became initiated into the group and has been with Suncycle 4 years. Hearing over and over how the best UK djs dj’d Chann was well groomed for the part she plays today, and has become the leading female dancehall artist that the UK has to date.
Chann has worked with a variety of artists and producers such as Chukki Starr, Tippa Irie, Sweetie Irie, Estelle, MC Romeo, JD aka Dready, Curtis Lynch Jnr, Black Twang, Freddi Kruega, Dexplicit, J2K, and many more!
