BACCHUS began as punk outfit in 2001 with Mike Swindell on guitar and vocals, Ryan Patterson on drums, and Matt Dacierno on bass. After playing a few shows including Metropol in the Strip District in Pittsburgh, BACCHS found it necessary to lay down some material in the studio, releasing the 4-song EP, BACCHUS EP. Several months later, Ryan had to depart the band because of personal issues that needed worked out. This is what began a 2 year circuit of BACCHUS playing without a solid drummer. While playing a few shows each year with The Fuzz frontman, Nick Turkall on drums, BACCHUS continued to practice 3 days a week without a drummer to help develop their musical style.
In 2005 BACCHUS found time-keeper extroidonaire, Austin Bowen. After playing multiple shows in the Pittsburgh area over the next year including the 31st Street Pub, The Smiling Moose, and White Hawk Cafe, BACCHUS entered Ground Control Audio, headed by Dennis Warner, to work on their second EP, The Tilt Room EP.
The Tilt Room EP spawns as the sound of what BACCHUS has matured into from the original punk rock sound. The EP displayed the complex musical structure that has come to be a staple of all BACCHUS compositions. Unfortunately, though, Austin had to leave the band in early 2008 for a new band.
An on and off relationship with Jake Jartin formed soon after Austin went on other projects. In the upcoming year Mike, Matt, and Jake worked tirelessly to change the original BACCHUS sound from a punk rock outfit to a loud progressive style. Jake's incredible time keeping and Peart-esque style of playing has since brought out the best from Mike and Matt.
In early 2009 Mike was sidelined with a severly broken elbow. After three months off BACCHUS is hard at work getting material ready for a first full length album.
