With the death of cassette tapes by CDs something was lost, especially in the realm of the "drum n bass mixtape". Back in the day (having to manually flip a tape over to "side b") one tape would consist of two mixes, with different styles and sometimes different genres. This helped bridge the different sub-categories of many elecronic musics and drum n bass is no exception.
Fast forward to the present and many mixed CDs you recieve are one continuous mix of one style and usually very little variance from start to end. The BACK2BACK SESSION mix series steps in where the cassette tape mixes left off, giving the listener 2 distinct mixes on one CD. Though you don’t literally "flip the tape over", the CDs feature 2 DJs who give the listeners 35 minute each of their own styles! You can find anything from a hard style drum n bass mix on the same CD as a liquid funk or a ragga mix on the same CD as a tech-step mix...in essence the combinations are endless. Not only a drum n bass (though that is the primary musical form represented) the series also has mixes from other electronica musical artforms such as Dubstep, Breaks, Grime and more...
Now with the backing and blessing of many of the USA’s top DJs, producers and of course the many fans, the BACK2BACK SESSION mix series has blossomed into a monthly extraveganza. From the corners of the United States the mix series tries to deliver some of the best talent around on a monthly basis.
The series has become such a success that it now also has it’s own night at RESPECT (Los Angeles’ longest running drum n bass weeklies), which has proven highly successful as Stateside drum n bass talent is on display for the people.
With thousands of downloads and streams, this free mix series is now a household name in United States Drum n Bass and if poised continue to grow exponentially!!!
