Backlash was formed in 1985 on the southside of Indianapolis, Indiana. The band began rehearsing and within a year had compiled enough material to record an album. The self-titled album was recorded in 1986 at TRC Mid-America Recording Center in Indianapolis and pressed in Canada. Alan Johnson was the engineer and the album was produced by Jeff Gardner. Steve Wolf was the original bass player. Chris Bippus replaced Steve in 1987.
Over 5000 copies were distributed throughout the Midwest and southern U.S. Backlash received some airplay and made several live appearances locally. In 1987 a second release was recorded in the form of an EP containing 5 new tracks. Guitarist Alan Cravens moved to California in 1988 to attend MIT. George Wolfla moved to California in 1998 but has since returned to Indy. Dan is currently playing with the Scalywags.
