Backlash, based in Vlissingen, was founded in the year 1999 by singer Dennis Raayman. In the year 2001 the band started writing it’s own songs and six months later recorded their first demo “Ambition to Follow” in Mark Nijssen’s studio.
As a result of this well received demo, Backlash was asked to perform at several pop stages and festivals in Zeeland. In the year 2002 Backlash competed in “De Grote Prijs van Nederland” (Grand Prize of The Netherlands) and won the regional finals. Because of winning first prize at the most important pop competition in The Netherlands, Backlash received attention from the national media, resulting in joint performances in The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany with known Dutch metal bands, such as Flesh made Sin, Polluted Inheritance, Pleurisy, Goddess of Desire, Calenish Circle, …..).
In between performances, in the year 2002, Backlash returned to Mark Nijssen’s studio in order to record their second demo “Reality Betrayed”. This demo, like the first one, received very positive reviews. After releasing these two demo’s and many performances, Backlash thought the time was ripe to record their first full length album in the year 2004.
This full length album is titled “The Binary Choice”, which refers to the difficult choices people have to make during their lives and how to deal with the consequences of these choices. This concept recurs throughout the lyrics that are on the album.
According to the band, the music on “The Binary Choice” can be classified as Brutal Metal, but everyone listening to the album will be able to form their own opinion. The band broke up mid 2005 to invest time in some personal issues. Drummer Tim Roijers, bass player Patrick Hoogstrate and guitarist Mike de Klerk formed the band Reznik an alternative rockband. December 2007 Tim Roijers and Backlash frontman Dennis Raayman talked 'bout picking up where they left of and restart the Backlash engine again.
So that's where we are today!
