Ever since the mid 90's when "rock" went out of style, there seems to have been this void missing from general mainstream music. When Nirvana finally killed the last few hair bands that remained, rock turned into grunge, and then turned into nu-metal. Not any more, kind of... Backseat Villain captures that hard rock element that has been gone for what seems to be forever.
