BackTracks Duo Bio
The BackTracks Duo is composed of Dj Edson C. who may be better known as Dj X-tsy from his past and Fred R. also known as Overkill.
Edson C. Soriano began collecting records, and started out by promoting his own parties as DJ X-tsy while attending Washington-Lee High School. In 1994 Edson was recruited as resident DJ on Friday Nights at the infamous DC club TRACKS, a space he occupied for several years until it closed down. By early 1999 he had played every major club in DC. Edson has been mixing for over 15 years and collected thousands of 12", thanks to a top 20 record pool position. He has earned the distinction of owning one of the most complete dance music vinyl collections in the area and has taken on the task of encoding it into digital media. Countless house-heads have been entertained by Edson and those he works with, such as DJ Overkill as the BackTracks Duo. Most recently Edson has taken over the organizer position of the DC Area House Meetup Group to extend his reach and help grow the areas passion for true house music and launched a social network for Djs and music junkies YourCrate.com .
Fred Rosenthal was influenced early on by the sounds of Masters At Work (Little Louie Vega & Kenny Dope), Todd Terry, David Morales, Erick Morillo, Armand Van Helden, DJ Sneak & labels such as Strictly Rhythm, Cutting, Nervous, Cajual, Relief & Underground Construction. During one of his visits at the local record shop, Fred signed up for a DJ competition hosted by Bobbe West from MC Bitch Productions At the age of 16, he had his first opportunity to play in front of 1000 people to exhibit his skills. Since then, he has networked and worked with various promoters & DJ’s in the DC metro area such as Buzzlife, Panorama, ELM, M3 and venues including Ibiza, 1223, Home, Insomnia as well as various bars & lounges throughout DC/MD & VA.
Generally speaking, their sets are a roller coaster ride through the world of house music. Neither DJ's like to fixate on the over-classification of house and are best known for choosing latin inspired tracks and rhythmic beats. With the emergence of so many new "sounds" they refuse to be limited by a sub-genre.
However, unlike many vinyl born DJ’s, Edson and Fred have gone one step further and recently moved into a very creative use of different technologies. Edson's new turntables are housed in a Vestax VCI-100’s, and his crates are on an Apple MacBook Pro while Fred is now using Scratch Serato and is working on establishing his own material on a PC.
