The Bad Detectives started with
a bunch of friends who liked music
and could just about manage a
basic three chord racket.
Influences came from the sixties
beat boom, pub rock and eventually punk.
Early line-ups included Ralph Mitchard,
Ed Larman and Mark "Bunce" Hunt
alongside perenial members
Ivan Bojczuk and Mark "Henry" Hutton.
The group spent many years playing pubs,
clubs and parties building up a small
local fanbase whilst also having
a very good time.
The current line-up of Ivan, Henry,
Paul Tozer, Chris Woodland, and Andy Stradling continued to gig all over the UK.
In late 2003 the band recorded a five track E.P."The Son Of Kong" containing all
original songs at Western Star Studios. The plan was to try to sell a few at gigs. Alan Wilson
the owner of the studios spotted something different in the band, he snapped them up to his Western Star record label
and put out their first album "Get Hip-Let Rip" to great acclaim. The band started to get noticed for the unusual
subject matter in their songs and the way they managed to mix up many diverse influences and still sound like The Bad Detectives.
Western Star also included
tracks from the group on their Joe Meek tribute albums "Joe Meek Shall Inherit The Earth" (Vol 1 & 2).
Two of the more rock n' roll tracks
put out by the 'Tecs appear on
"Western Star Psychobillies Vol 1". They also have a song on the compilation "Psycho Killers" released on Cherry Red Records.
After the sucess of the first album, Western Star had the band back into the studio to record a second.
The result is "B-Movie Beat", featuring 17 all new Bad Detectives originals. It has got us some airplay on BBC Radio 2 and has had some great reviews. It is out now through Western Star in the UK.
