Bad Dobby was formed in Feb '07, the result of three guys from a Pink Floyd tribute act wanting to spread their musical wings.
As a result Bad Dobby was born.
Out on the road finally and the work is pouring in - we're actually having to turn down some gigs. The first gig is out the way and under our belt and I can say that we are all much more relaxed now.
We are a covers band and already have a long list of songs under our belt, some of them are over on the left. We are probably working on a list of approx. 30 songs if not more.
These along with obviously more to come will form the ever expanding sets we have to go out with.
Rich (click for MySpace site!) Rich, who is actually a drummer, has been playing bass now since around Jan '07 & drums since the age of 10. "It seemed a logical step to take, plus the fact John had already taken the drum throne, so it was kind of learn it or lose it!. I have heard it said that the bass is one of the easiest intruments to play but one of the most difficult to master. I can see what they mean.. As for inspiration, at the moment I am just taking in as much as I can that involves the bass, learning as much as possible." Rich use a Harley Benton bass guitar and amp and Line 6 Bass POD XT Live for effects.
Terry (click for MySpace site!) Self taught, Terry has been playing guitar since the age of 16 and has played in bands such as Laid To Waste and Adversary, mostly heavy rock, since he was about 18. He was then invited to join Wilfred Hyde White, a classic rock band and quickly gelled with the existing band members, who included John. The band progressed and changed through the years, becoming Area 51 and then Chaos Theory, playing such prestigious venues as Leicester City FC and Blenheim Palace. Previous to playing the guitar, Terry played the keyboards as a hobby, achieving Grade 5 on the electronic organ and a gold medal from Technics Music Academy. From a young age, Terry sang with choirs and for shows in fantastic venues such as The Royal Albert Hall, Kings College - Cambridge, Bath Abbey, Bristol Cathedral, Wells Cathedral, Peterborough Cathedral and theatres such as the McKinley. Terry uses Fender, Ibanez & Gibson guitars, Marshall amps and a Line 6 POD XT Live for effects.
John (click for MySpace site!) John first started playing with a group he can't remember the name of (note the name Elder Dobby, memory going a little) moving on to a top pub/club band Rhiannon then onto Wilfred Hyde White, again another successful local band. Then like the rest onto Time to Breathe. John plays a Pearl Masters kit with way too many cymbals to mention, and which is laid out suspiciously like Gavin Harrison's kit from Porcupine Tree...
Below are a couple of web vids of the first gig at The Windmill club.
