It's not so much as band as, it is just myself, and recently started recording my music.
I am originally from Canada, now living in Los Angeles.
I began learning to play the piano at the age of five. I recall, on a family trip while listening to a pianist, my father kneeling down next to me, putting his arm around me and softly saying, “Son, one day you will play like that.”
I have gone from playing in churches, and small concerts, to no-where at all. Life takes its turns, but some things always remain, and I’ve always turned to music to release some of my emotions.
Much of my inspiration comes from how I feel, about someone, something, or just the current mood. Recently, the love of my life picked up on this, in how her mood was affected by my music.
Songs and Their Stories
Sac Mau
This song was initially introduced to me by a dear friend, and originally written by Tran Tien.
Mae
During a recent conversation, someone drew a parallel between my carreer and composing music – creating something out of nothing.
This song, Mae, ideally depicts that, in how I was thinking of the woman I love...
During the studio session, I simply began playing what I felt… whatever came out. It’s a little raw near the beginning, but I think it makes perfect sense in keeping it all in there, as I was thinking about relationships. They start from virtually nothing. Sometimes they fizzle out, other times they evolve into delicate, life-long lasting moments.
Cozy Lights
I originally composed this song about three years ago and sometimes its a hurricane of emotions and it never goes away. I believe it was around the winter of 2004, and first started coming together as I played a friend’s piano, waiting for them to get ready to go out, and slowly evolved...
Cozy Lights – With Flute
This is a non-studio recording of Cozy Lights, done one impromptu afternoon at the house of a fantastic flautist, conductor and friend, Tina Huynh. I believe this was the second take. Tina’s improvisations have really added a great dynamic to this song.
Much of my inspiration comes from occurrences in my life. I am fortunate enough to be with the woman I love, and knowing what I mean to her makes all the difference in the world. I've noticed how this has started to come out in some of the new songs I'm working on, and look forward to sharing them soon.
Wow, it's almost been two years since we last saw each other. But that day in the studio was one heck of a fun day. Anyhow, just wanted to drop in a hi and let you know that I got your missed call. Sorry I haven't been able to call you. I just got back to the states. Was in Europe for a couple of weeks for work.
