About me:

The intention and mission behind Bad Unkl Sista is the constant investigation into the fusion of wearable arts, sculpture, performance and installation to create a stimulating, thought provoking experience. The aim of a Bad Unkl Sista performance is to suspend, for a moment, the judgment of reality and offer a journey into a lucid dream that is a celebration of imagination.

With 17 years of performance experience and 8 years of design, Anastazia Louise created Bad Unkl Sista as a vehicle for performance, visual art, costume and clothing design. Since moving to San Francisco in 2006 Bad Unkl Sista has performed and designed for many events and performance troupes such Maker Faire, Love Fest VIP fashion show, Sea of Dreams, The Crucible, The Carpetbag Brigade, L.A. Stilt Circus, Flam Chen and Burning Man. Anastazia is also part-time artistic director and resident performer at SF Supper Club.

Anastazia Louise is obsessively committed to investigation of physical, spiritual, and psychological edges. Anastazia’s multi-media art form strives to offer a personal exploration for the performer and viewer. Through the use of couture costumes, physical theater, butoh and site specific installation work, Anastazia creates fantastical otherworldly characters and environments used as pathways for probing into the human internal landscape. The characters she creates are not human and are not confined to the limited human thought forms.

In every performance there exists a challenge to open and release into an authentic exchange of raw emotion and inspiring truth of being. In a Bad Unkl Sista performance the performer and viewer are presented with an opportunity to reach beyond patterned and conditioned thinking in order to promote and stimulate the possibility of a deeper artistic communication.

HEY!!! You know... I cancelled my website. It had a bunch of stuff on there I wanted to separate myself from. I'm going to wait until I have a bigger body of work closer to what I did with you and the below. That's awesome of you to ask though... just credit Jeff Pearson somewhere if you can.

I'm actually interning for David LaChapelle right now; and I have to tell you, it was in part to your advice that day on the way back from Supperclub that I was so "gung ho" when I got down here to L.A. So thank you.

In this photo, nothing has been photoshopped or superimposed in any way... what you see actually existed. I used about 16,000 dried flowers to make the mosaic.

Please keep in touch, you're a bright light I don't want to lose contact with.

Nomadic post-world drum trio Sikhara have drawn a pattern of tire tracks across four continents. As the founders of the international Radon collective, Sikhara have contributed mightily to the noise and experimental music scenes; inclusive of several stays in Portland during the flowering of our own freak scene. Along the way they've collaborated and co-conspired with Acid Mother's Temple, Z'EV, Damo Suzuki's Network, Steve MacKay, KK Null, Smegma, Bastard Noise, Amps For Christ, Ovo, Mechanosphere, and the guests gathered for this show in Portland.

Steve MacKay; the pioneering saxophonist who blew down the walls between jazz, rock, and noise with his scorching solos for The Stooges and Violent Femmes; will perform once again with the multinational freak collective Radon.

Moe! Staiano, the world's premiere scrap percussionist and co-founder of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, playing a rare solo set.

Bad Unkl Sista, combining butoh dance and costume theater toward a revolutionary aesthetic of performance and design.

And Portland's clangorous chamber-noise ensemble, Nequaquam Vacuum.

Cute as a Chinese baby, Friday at Orbis Nex.
