John Archer (Flute, Harmonica, Percussion, Vocals); Mike Hall (Guitar, Mandola, Vocals, Songwriter); Mary O' Gilmour (Melodeon & Queen Rat, Big Mouth Gobshite) and Bearchan Mc Carthy (idiot, lack of memory and all-round fool ...+ Fiddle & Banjo)
Influences
So many we'd have to write a book and then another and then some more. Bollox - it's mainly Beer.
John has been emotionally influenced by Cats. Most of his music is dedicated to cats. His house is now open to all homeless cats, if anyone would like to find a place for some old mangy flea-infested mog, his is the place.
Sounds Like
Nothing I've heard before because i'm deaf and can't hear meself farting. we really are a band that is difficult (and we don't know what we're doing) which is why you should listen to someone else and come and see us dead (cos we're mainly dead) and then you can make up your own minds.
Spreading Gloom, Doom and Despondency, from the Somerset and Dorset area of the West Country comes a filthy scum slime of rats, in fact the Bag of Rats. The band have toured around the local area (to the dismay of all) gigging at festivals, pubs and folk clubs entertaining the crowds (is five people a crowd?) with their unique take on folk with influences in Traditional English Beer, Nuclear Physics (where's me bloody fusion? - you can't have nuclear physics without fusion), Blues, Irish, Jazz, Country, a smidgen of Ska (Naah), a hint of alternative (Alt what?) and a peppering of salt and psychedelic skiffle.
[and Simon - will you STOP sabotaging my script!].
Ok so it's 'Jazz-Folk-Reggae-Country-Soul-Metal-Psycho-Skiffle' fission. This is kind of confusing. Holy Higgs Boson Please stop messin around! - This is supposed to be a 'professional' band!
Bag of Rats came together in 2005 with a view to forming a band that could combine the many musical influences and styles (ooh!) that each of the members could bring to the fore (yeah we had a board meeting first, you know, and analysed each others talents and and distilled the essence of each of us to see what we could do to utilise those very special condiments that make such a yummy corporate curry).
Each member (oh poo, have I payed this years fees?!) has played in various kinds of bands over the years and the richness (thick gravy sort of rich) of the music that Bag of Rats have produced is proving to be more and more popular with the people (call THEM people!?!?) they entertain (total tarts that they are). On top of playing at gigs and festivals and the like, they have produced an album called ABBEY RODENT (a completely original idea by John, copied by that talent-free band known as 'The Beatles').
This was made possible by the fantastic Jules of SOUNDBASE Studio, Wellington.
Please contact Mary for festivals, gigs, interviews, record deals, car-wrecking service and tours around the world oh and television [I hate telly - it makes your brain go dead!]. We’re not asking for much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go on I can tell you want to!! Take me take me!
