BAHAMADIA rose to prominence on the hip-hop scene as an artist/lyricist/producer signed to GURU of GANG STARR'S ILL KID RECORDS.
She went on to lend her smooth-flowing raps to a variety of projects during the late '90s, including several electronica and acid jazz artists. Born Antonia Reed in Philadelphia, BAHAMADIA started out DJing at local house parties in the early to mid-'80s, and soon stepped out front to honing her skills on the mic as well. She remained a presence on the Philly hip-hop scene, but didn't make her first recordings until hooking up with producer/radio personality DJ RAN(TECH.NITION PRO DJ'S WORLWIDE), who helmed her independent 1993 single "FUNK VIBE." "FUNK VIBE" caught the attention of GANG STARR'S MC GURU, who took an interest in BAHAMADIA'S career and helped her get a record deal with Chrysalis. Her first officially released singles, 1994's "TOTAL WRECK" and 1995's "UKNOWHOWWEDO," were well-received in the underground for their soulful soundscapes and laid-back raps. She also appeared on the second volume of GURU'S acclaimed JAZZMATAZZ project. The full-length LP KOLLAGE followed in 1996, and featured production by DJ PREMIER(Gang Starr,Biggie Smalls,Nas,etc...), SKI-BEATS( JAY-Z's Reasonable Doubt),N.O.JOE(Ghetto Boys),THE BEAT MINERS(Black Moon), as well as fellow Philly natives THE ROOTS.
Unfortunately, Chrysalis folded a year later, and BAHAMADIA chose to wait out her contract before resuming her career as a solo, independent artist. In the meantime, she made a string of musically adventurous guest appearances that solidified her international underground reputation: THE ROOTS (Illadelph Halflife's "Push up Ya Lighter"), SWEETBACK(Sade & Maxwell's backing band), drum'n'bass auteur RONI SIZE (the title track of the landmark,MERCURY AWARD WINNING project, NEW FORMS), TOWA TEI(Dee-Lite), acid jazzers the BRAND NEW HEAVIES, trip-hoppers MORCHEEBA ("Good Girl Down"), SLUM VILLAGE,DWELE,EYRKAH BADU,QUEEN LATIFAH,ANGIE STONE, MC LYTE, PETE ROCK, TALIB KWELI & DJ HI-TEK'S Reflection Eternal (their collaboration, "CHAOS," appeared on the seminal RAWKUS compilation Soundbombing, Vol. 2), MARK DE CLIVE LOWE, TY,KING BRITT, ULTRA NATE', and many more cutting edge artist of the world music scene. Her music has also appeared in movies such as BROWN SUGAR, DOMINO to name a few as well as SHOWTIMES' THE L WORD. She also hosted a hip-hop radio show in Philadelphia from 1997-1999. In 2000, she signed with the L.A.-based indie Goodvibe and released the chilled-out BB QUEEN (as in "beautiful black")project featuring production and/or guest appearances by JAMES"J-DILLA"YANCEY,DJ REVOLUTION(WAKE UP SHOW)CALI AGENTS(Rasco & Planet Asia),DWELE,etc... which received excellent reviews. ~

I missed two of your European shows during the last couple of years, but I'm gonna right that wrong next month at Hip Hop Kemp in the Czech Republic where you're gonna perform. It's gonna take like 15 hours and travelling through 3 countries to get there, but that's okay by me :))
