BIOGRAPHY
It was at the end of 1999 that Stefano Rossello started Bahntier as an ambient/experimental project.
Over time, the sounds of the project evolved and became more aggressive, concrete, and percussive
and in the summer of 2000 Stefano made some initial recordings which caught the attention of
the E.N.D.E. Radioluxor label. Vocal elements were then added to the recordings and thus the
first proper Bahntier demo was completed and subsequently released in 2001 by the label.
Bahntier then began to present live shows, an act which was comprised of a mix of sounds and hard
visual performance employing video projection, theatrical lighting, and performance art.
As a result the number of people involved in the Bahntier live act increased. This line-up
soon solidified with Stefano Rossello as voice, synth, and performer; Christian Battiferro on
percussion and samplers; and Filippo Corradin and Valentina Sanna on projection and
lighting efx.
In April of 2002 Stefano Rossello met (thanks to the label) Simon Balestrazzi, leader of the
historical Italian band T.A.C. and ex member of the Kirlian Camera project. Simon decided to work on
the production of the new Bahntier release, which was recorded at the NeuroHabitat studios in
Cagliari (the same studio where Balestrazzi was producing his new T.A.C. release and the release of
TH26). Prior to the release of this album Bahntier performed at the Metamatik Festival with
Suicide Commando. P.A.L. and VNV Nation and the show's response generated a buzz around the Bahntier
project. In 2003 Bahntier released on Karnak (an electro/industrial sublabel of E.N.D.E.) the
album “Randome”. Consisting of 13 tracks, the sound of the project had progressed to a mix of
powernoise and industrial with aggressive vocals reminiscent of bands like Skinny Puppy
(an obvious influence on Stefano).
In 2004 Stefano started to record the album “Revulsive” for the Rustblade label (www.rustblade.com).
For the new sessions Stefano brought in Filippo Corradin to contribute sounds as a noise
manipulator for the project. After the official release of “Revulsive” Bahntier did a mini
European tour and performed in cities like London and Berlin. In Berlin, Stefano and Filippo
met Nadja from the Schlagstrom organization, who then became the bands manager. After this,
Bahntier performed with bands such as This Morn Omina, Mono No Aware, Dive, Asche,
Synapscape, S.K.E.T., Agonoize, and Anenzephalia.
In Bologna in 2005, Stefano met Justin Bennett (live drummer of Skinny Puppy,
My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Peter Murphy, and many others) and he soon became involved
with the Bahntier project. The new Bahntier line up with Justin on the drums and additional sound
manipulation played a historic set at the Wave Gothic Treffen festival of Liepseig, Germany in 2006.
This show and it's amazing response confirmed the Bahntier project as a major force in the new
european industrial wave.
In October of 2006 a brand new Bahntier album was released titled "Blindoom" on Rustblade
records, and already a wave of press and positive reviews are sweeping across Europe.
Co-produced by Justin with Stefano, it features live drums, percussions, and instrumentations
seamlessly blended with harsh tribal programming and electronic sounds to produce a powerful
post industrial onslaught.
post industrial onslaught.
After
a triumphant concert held at the Wave Gotik Treffen festival
in Leipzig ( 2006 ), Bahntier// returns with his third ambitious
album. This time the eclectic Stefano Rossello (in addition
to his inseparable companion Filippo Corradin) is accompanied
by JUSTIN BENNETT directly from SKINNY PUPPY's live incarnation,
who has worked hard to leave an indelible imprint with his
drumming virtuosity and violent percussion. The album is
characterized by a suffering atmosphere outlined by extreme,
compact tracks and a high level of technical and artistic
mastery. Distorted vocals ranging from hard industrial sounds
to great piano compositions, extremely fast noise rhythms
and hard electro soundwaves come courtesy of Stefano Rossello
and Justin Bennett (production ) with Eric VanWonterghem
(Sonar, Insekt, Monolith, Klinik) on mastering duties. "Blindoom" comes
heralded as one of the industrial records of the year, putting
Bahntier// firmly amongst the cult groups making up the new
international electronic scene.
