My name is Brian Abraham. By day I teach drums and piano and by night I produce electronic music and play with some of the bands featured here on my top friends. My music production is what I am showcasing here on this profile which is clearly non-commercial due to it's dark nature; however, I also freelance a bit by selling hip hop to emcees, providing drum programming for the likes of Umphrey's McGee ("Bright Lights, Big City" as heard on 93.1 WXRT), as well as a few happy go lucky tracks for Harpo Studios music library (to probably never be played on the Oprah Winfrey Show).
I have been writing some music lately for a band called Goodnight Nurse which features Kris Myers of Umphrey's McGee. I play Rhodes more than drums in that project which features only my own compositions. It is the first band I have led as a composer, keyboardist and drummer so I am pretty excited about it. Please listen to the music on our myspace profile featured here as my top friend.
I can also proudly say that I am the drummer on call for a rapper who has earned the title as THE GREATEST according to his almost perfect record in battles which include the world famous Scribble Jam! JUICE has earned international recognition by beating such hip hop legends as Common and Eminem.
A recent full time position has opened up for me in the ultimate multi-tasking band Sundance. This band plays quite a wide variety of music from be-bop to pop to modern rock to funk, catering to any occasion. Complete with a horn section, this band has and does it all! Go to thebandsundance.com for more info.
Karaoke Sound Machine, featured here on my top friends, is another band I play for when available. We provide the music from a list of over 250 songs, and you sing them. I am also the first string sub for Johnny Russler and the Beach Bum Band, The Bobby Dunne Band and Hooked On Sonics, truly 3 of the finest bar bands in the Chicago area.
I also play in 7 League Boots, an avantronica/live d'n'b band I am the founder of. I play drums, rhodes and a sampler in this band. We don't find time to gig much anymore but we do still record so check out that band's myspace profile for a quite unique musical experience or go to 7leagueboots.com for even more music.
Recently a couple of friends of mine started a band called The Atomic Gumdrops that performs children's music and they asked me to join them. It's a blast to play for the kids especially when we play any of those great Schoolhouse Rock songs. Go to atomicgumdrops.com for more info.
I have considered myself a jazz influenced drummer and composer for most of my music career. I have found out the hard way that it is much easier to make money playing top 40 covers, wedding band stuff, etc. but I do feel lucky that the ORIGINAL projects I am involved in usually end up being some kind of jazz/fusion hybrid.
I use a digital audio workstation named Logic while producing music at home and I am VERY fond of the MOOG emulators. Here is a picture of Bob Moog, someone who revolutionized music through technology.I believe Bob Moog to be one of the most important figures in musical history. Here are some other people I believe to be important figures in musical history:This is my 16 year old cat Selim. He is my best friend. For more music check:www3.bandspace.com/bands/6489/ (both these are under my former name Daboot) www.purevolume.com/daboot
