He is a percussionist extraordinaire, pianist, arranger, bandleader, composer, producer, recording engineer, educator and motivational speaker. As one of the most accomplished, respected and sought freelancer on the East Coast he is considered a legend in the making. His diversity has undoubtedly made a mark in the industry and success is dictated in his lifetime discography and credentials.
Chino has received countless lifetime achievement awards, which include but are not limited to a Grammy and numerous Latin Grammy nominations. For over 30 years, he has performed with all of the mainstream and legendary artists in the Latin genre, most recently with the Spanish Harlem Orchestra. To worldwide acclaim, Chino launched his Solo career in July 2005 after the much-anticipated release of his debut album Chino Nunez & Friends, It’s SHOtime, Strictly Hardcore Orchestra On 1 or 2, A Tribute to the Dancers. The debut CD remains on the top play lists, has received countless recognitions and numerous tracks have been selected for salsa compilations all over the world including but not limited to Latin Beat Magazine, Tropicana (Italy) and the World Music Network (UK). In addition, Homenaje Al Bailador was selected for a scene in a soon to be released film, Padre Nuestro, distributed by Cinergy Pictures.
The band is comprised of (13) musicians -- two trumpets, three trombones making up the brass, combined with the swing of the percussion, bass, piano and 3 vocalists. Whether at the world-renown Lincoln Center or The Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, a social or dance club in Brooklyn or an outdoor festival in the Bronx, Chino Nunez & Friends Orchestra has broken all the rules and has been recognized as a promoter’s delight, making Chino Nunez a household name as a Solo Artist.
