Used to play in an orchestra untill he got tired of "being conducted". He also developed a theory early on that a guitar's 6 stings and 22 frets give you a fairly finite variety of options. In college he decided that interning on the hill wasn't for him. Skipping class to play with samplers and blowing his checks on gear, he divided his time between political activism and music. At this time he resides in DC, and is currently working on three music projects: Bajskorv, Societal Demise ( collaboration with Rachael Haywire ) and Savage Ideal (solo).
Juan Monarez:
Was raised with alternative music from an early age and has always sought to perform it. He is a classicly trained painter and created the cover for the second Bajskorv album IRSH TOMB ICH. He helps craft some of the music for Bajskorv but is primarily the lead singer. He writes all his own lyrics and creates all of his own effects. He is also involved in an industrial side project called Dephalt(colaboration with Xavier Swafford of Verigo).

BAJSKORV is a Washington, DC based industrial band formed by Christian Wright and Juan Monarez in 2003. Their goal is to create and perform industrial music that is both technically creative as well as politically aggressive. Their sound is primarily sample and synthesizer based, with heavily processed vocals and few guitars. Though roles occasionally switch in the band, you will most often find Christian as the main musical composer and Juan as the lead vocalist and lyricist.
In the spring of 2006 BAJSKORV independently recorded it’s first full length self titled album, which ranged in style from harsh experimentation to industrial dance. After a few shows in the DC area to promote the debut, BAJSKORV returned to the studio that fall to make their second album, Irsh Tomb Ich. This recording began as a 25 minute live improvisation experiment that later evolved into a full length album with some structured and some unstructured songs. Its release was followed up with an active live schedule that took the band around the Mid-Atlantic during the spring and summer of 2007, playing alongside such regional and national acts as Bella Morte, Worms of the Earth, Xuberx, Dharmata 101, Vyral, Angels on Acid, Ikonoklast, Panzer Division, Failed Utopia, Synthetic Division, Red This Ever, and Synthetic Nightmare.
By August 2007 recording and mixing was completed on a third full length, Scars and Stripes. This release was characterized by a consolidation of earlier experimentation, and in the words of one critic, "mixes strong and occasionally quite nearly club-friendly beats with insanely dynamic and complex layers of analog synthesis with old school junkyard noises and atmospheres..."
In early 2008 Bajskorv hit the road to take Scars and Stripes to 22 cities across the United States, performing along the way with bands such as Worms of the Earth, W.A.S.T.E., Alter De Ruine, Cockfight Club, All Ties Severed, Esper Machine, I:Scintilla, Lockjaw, AM Psych, Go Yo, Trash Orchestra, Herpes Hideaway Vs. Red Squirrels, In The Age of Terminal Static, The Yage, Kluge, Ierased, and many more.
Sooo....it looks like I will be in CO for a weekend. My band will be performing again in Denver on Nov 8..then to Colorado Spring on the 9th. I'll be flying in on the 7th. I hope I can see you. :) and...I'm now the keyboardist. :)
I was driving down the road yesterday listening to the radio and realized I really miss you fuckers. I miss old school industrial. With every day I get sicker and sicker of generic, repetitive pop that perpetuates the misconception that everything's okay with the world and if not, things will be okay in the end for whatever bullshit reason they give (i.e., she'll come back to you, you'll get so drunk you'll forget until the morning, nothing matters and you should just kill yourself to end your misery, etc.) I miss driving insane distances to come see you and get hearing damage. I miss the raw, uncompromising nature of your sound because I can't find anything else out there to fill in the gap. I need more fucking Bajskorv. *twitches*
I don't deny the city itself is nice. Next time you come out here, let me know k? I can set you up with the right people to deal w/ that will make it worth your time....and then I can show you around...if you want. :)
LOl..yeah..and the sad thing is that NO ONE believed me, that you guys got screwed by Ron- the guy who booked you guys. Everyone just kisses his ass and believes that he's so awesome cus he HAD a club. No one realizes how bad band got it. You've heard of AlterDeRuine and Waste right? 2 HUGE groups...they got paid like $40 divided that among the 2 bands..zilch...and the place made like $400 that night. Total BS. I would have paid every band what they deserved, but that's what happens when a broke crackhead has money in their hands. Right now he's in trouble with a lot of bands for more screwing over and trying to claim that he "works" for this huge Industrial label in AZ. He got caught rehanded in that. Total dushebag.
I'm one of 2 DJ's who do the live mixing for them. It's not much, but it's esentially what everyone does from a laptop..but I do it with actual tracks/manipulation.There's plans for other new incorporations, so I'm anxious to see what and how it will work out. They've had to resort to the laptop the last few performances. They are nice people...It's def fun to go with them when I can to places...but def not cost effective. :/ But it's all about the love of the music!
Well I'm going back to school for Graphic Design. I finished my Fashion Design degree, but I'm not interested in it anymore. So I'm in the middle of debating what to do. Animal therapy or Graphic Deisgn. It's really hard because they're two major different areas and I really like both. I'll figure it out. :)
Sounds like you've both been really busy. I'm really intersted in hearing your new work. I read your entry about the nature sounds and the influence..I don't think I've never heard something like that being accomplished.
I was suppose to be in CO 2 weeks ago to do some touring w/ my side band Espermachine. I couldn't get out of my schedule and missed that leg of the tour. I was totally planning on hitting you up. Maybe next time! :/
The Sac scene has gone downhill. I got screwed out of it by the people who booked you guys. I really don't deal a whole lot with that part of the scene now..but with the Trance part. It's a lot more positive and much more less drama filled. The club closed and there's one that replaced it, but there's word it won't last long. There's just not a lot of support, which is sad. For now I'm doing that and my own independent gigs. The freedom and independence is nice.
More Psychotic Fun at your fingertips from your friend at the fringe!
