| Baker Maultsby: General Info
| Member Since | 6/21/2006 | | Band Website | This will have to do it for now. | | Band Members | The band I play with has included a somewhat rotating cast of characters. It depends a little on who's available and who can put up with me. Lately, I've been performing with Josh Tennant, a fine bassist and all-round musician I've known since we were kids, and guitar phenom Brandon Turner. The outrageous Roy Brooks played guitar on a record with me a few years back. I've had the opportunity, as well, to play with drummer Kevin Heuer, guitarist Brad Carr and steel guitarist Mike Bagwell. Nashvillians Peter Cooper (my longtime friend and co-songwriter), Tim Carroll (monster guitarist and wonderful songwriter), and Perry Baggs (drummer from Jason and the Scorchers and genuine hero!) have been kind enough to lend their talents, as well. | | Influences | Too many to name, probably, but.....Jason and the Scorchers, Terry Allen, Gerald Duncan and the Accelerators, Robbie Fulks, Matthew Knights, the Silos, Southern Culture on the Skids, Peter Cooper, Vince Mann, Tim Carroll....I sure love Tom Petty and the Beatles and the Ramones and Hank Williams.... | | Sounds Like | "the texture of wry Southern fiction by someone like Clyde Edgerton or Lewis Nordan..." - THE NEW YORK TIMES; "With enough crunch to make any son of Marshall Tucker proud, Maultsby and his band...come on like a buttoned-down version of the Bottle Rockets..." - CHARLESTON POST AND COURIER; "As for Baker, he was a delight." - GARRISON KEILLOR. | | Type of Label | Indie |

| About Baker Maultsby |
I'm from Spartanburg, SC, home to many strip malls, sizable stretches of two interstates, lots of vinyl-sided homes, the fabulous Monterrey Mexican Restaurant, and a downtown working hard to make a comeback. I sing about these sorts of topics in a number of songs -- "Four Wal Marts," "The Taco Belle," "Pee Dee Man" and others -- from the album "Bingo=Sin." Working with such pals and collaborators as music journalist Peter Cooper and Wofford College poet John Lane, we've got a bit of a twang-and-rock thing going, along with a lyrical approach I guess you could refer to as social commentary. We've had a few high moments: The chorus of "Four Wal Marts" has been quoted in both the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, and Peter and I (along with musicians David Ezell and Mike Bagwell) performed the song on "A Prairie Home Companion." I am married to the lovely Gretchen, and we have two young and delightful children, Clara and Emily Bauer. Family interests and job stuff have somewhat sidetracked my ambition of being the first-ever performer to top the Country, Pop, R&B and Hip-Hop, Dance, and Latin charts all at once.....but I continue to write and am working toward the goal of making another record. Meanwhile, I like playing with a band mostly -- I've got a somewhat revolving but always solid cast of players from Upstate, SC -- but I also enjoy performing solo or all-acoustic with one other guy or two other guys or whatever suits. We play our own songs, as well as some tasty rock-and-roll and country covers.
