    .. .. .. .. .. .. .. Formed in 1997 during a community arts celebration in its hometown, Baktun 12 is a group of artists from East Salinas, California. The group is dedicated to the upliftment of Chicano culture, art, and community. Since its inception, the group has developed its own brand of performance art, which incorporates traditional Chicano teatro and comedy, spoken word poetry and hip-hop music. In 2006, the group developed and performed its newest work, "The Baktun 12 Variety Show." Mixing it's Teatro/Hip-Hop/Spoken Word steez with a traditional talk/variety show format, the group has staged the show twice in the Bay Area.
