The new Baldego album has been given a big thumbs up by those lovely folks at Fuse Magazine. Check out the latest blog entry for the full review...
Baldego is Xfm's uploaded artist of the week! Thanks to everyone for voting and Martin Bate for getting chromedome some airplay - nice one!
Baldego is now a three-man band headed by J.J. McGowan, with James Whyte and Robbie Edmonstone making up the power trio! Influenced by the likes of Led Zeppelin, Muse, Radiohead, Hendrix, Copelandia Cyanescens, Fear of Death and anything with a good groove, Baldego was born.
An established live performer within the Glasgow and Edinburgh music scene, Baldego has supported the likes of Jamie T and Nick Harper, with his solo shows incorporating percussive, vocal and electronic loops for something a little bit different on the live scene. Now with a new band presence, these are exciting times for the coming year.
Fuse Magazine, January 2008 'Firebrand' soars and shivers with emotional pop tunes...epic songwriting.
The Skinny, February 2007 "Baldego is his own rhythm section, backing vocalist, harmoniser and, somehow, even manages to duet with himself somewhere in the maelstrom. Soaring rhythms, relaxed backing vocals and even a little human beat box here and there, McGowan’s strange, almost quixotic acoustic pop may carry many familiar tones. The conflict between the modern, technological twist and his otherwise outmoded methods do not; a live show that truly provides context and texture to his recorded work."
MUSIC NEWS Scotland, March 2006 “What’s HOT this month...Another debut album, this time from JJ McGowan aka Baldego who’s influences are based around a good groove. He’s been getting noticed on the Glasgow circuit and is well worth a listen to.”
I agree with ya there with the noise level. Wouldn't be hearing for a couple of days, if I didn't have my ear plugs in. Its even louder when trying to get a pic in front of the speaker.
hey guys how u doing, i honestly cant rememer how i stumbled onto your page.. but i did just spend th last few min trying to work out who or what halfway to the ground sounded a lil like..then looked over to th influences box,and it was clear haha,..suppose thats a compliment, im not gd at compliments lol
long story short, i like 'halfway to the ground, so far th only song i've listened to, but th other will get some eartime
