  • Bio

More infatuated with the image of pop music than its sound, B.A.L.L. set out to satirize bloated '70s rock in all of its glory. And it wasn't Dark Side of the Moon that was their target; it was George Harrison's Concert for Bangladesh, as well as T. Rex and Bob Dylan. The cover of their second album, Bird, lampooned the Beatles' "butcher cover" for Yesterday and Today. Not surprisingly, B.A.L.L. featured superstars of the American indie underground -- Shockabilly bassist/producer Kramer, and Half Japanese, Velvet Monkeys and Gumball guitarist Don Fleming. Along with their two drummers, David Licht (also of Shockabilly) and Jay Spiegel (also of Half Japanese, Velvet Monkeys and Gumball), the band cranked out four albums of driving guitars soaking in distortion with a relentless beat. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide B.A.L.L. Four "Hardball" CD, LP and CS Shimmy Disc 90. Trouble Doll CD,LP and CS Shimmy Disc 89. The Bridge Compilation CD includes "Out of the Blue", Caroline 89. Bird CD, LP and CS Shimmy Disc 88. Period CD, LP and CS Shimmy Disc 87.

Just finished reading an interview in some British rag from 1993 where Rummager is explaining why he never took off that leather B.A.L.L. coat for three years.
