Based in Haywood County, North Carolina, Balsam Range consists of five men native to this region “where the Smokies meet the Blue Ridge.”
Bluegrass says a lot of what this band is about, but equally important are the aspects of Gospel and Country Music. All the fellows in the band grew up in the rich musical heritage of the Appalachian South, surrounded by culture and heritage steeped in traditions of The Grand Ole Opry…as well as the important influences of the Scotch-Irish settlers of the Southern Mountains, English ballads, Western songs…and tunes written by the band members themselves.
Balsam Range is celebrating the success of their latest single, Last
Train to Kitty Hawk. The title cut from their second album has hit
No. 1 on the national Bluegrass Unlimited Chart for the month of
September! The album is sitting at No. 5. Both the song and album
have been climbing the chart since the national release in late
January.
BR credit’s the DJs for playing their music and to all the fans for
requesting the song. LTKH is currently being played on national radio
stations along with XM/Sirius Radio. They are also played locally on
WNCW - 88.7FM. “This is every exciting for us,” Darren Nicholson
said. “We are based in Western North Carolina, but this shows that we
are a legitimate act nationwide.”
Over the summer BR has been quite busy playing at many national
festivals and venues as well as continuing their WNC dates.
Thanks again to all the DJs and fans for helping to make Last Train to Kitty Hawk number one!
