I was born in 1938, fathered by one of our greatest Presidents, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, under his Public Works Administration. I have been in service ever since to the citizens of Tuscaloosa and the west Alabama region. I am currently a multi-purpose theatre, offering film via my Cinema Nouveau series: independent, art, foreign, and documentary films. I also screen films by students from the Department of Telecommunication and Film at the University of Alabama. In the spring, I feature offerings from the Jewish Film Festival.
I am the home of The Tuscaloosa Childrens Theatre, The Tuscaloosa Community Dancers, and The Tuscaloosa County High School Drama Department. Those crazy kids from UA's theatre department bring Guerilla Theatre here many times during the school year on a random Saturday night.
I have Acoustic Night about once a month in the Greensboro Room of The Bama. You can hear emerging singer/songwriters and acoustic groups from all across the country. Last year we had artists from Brooklyn, Columbus, OH, Atlanta, Nashville, Charlotte, Birmingham...
Performing artists ranging from Vincent Price to The Police to Chris Hillman have graced my stage in the last 69 years. Looking forward to the coming months, we'll have Claire Lynch, The Deadstring Brothers, The Steeldrivers, Joan Baez, Aimee Mann and more. Keep tuned to this site for the latest!
