With roots in hip hop and seeds of knowledge in fashion and marketing, Jojo will be the first to tell you to do what you love! Throughout high school and college, Jojo was a true Seattle hip hop head. Throwing jams, street promoting, b*girling and repping Seattle from coast to coast. From the glory days of the Flavor Magazine to the Vibrations of the infamous Art Bar, DMC battles, B*Boy Summits, Rocksteady Anniversaries and everything else in between, Jojo took pride in all aspects of the culture.
With her marketing savvy, she witnessed the birth of hip hop gear and other commercial ventures and decided that she would bring her own creativity and hip hop energy to the table. She took in a marketing degree from the Univ. of WA and went to the Apparel Design program at Seattle Central.
While kickin' it at the Art Bar, Jojo met Alyasha Owerka Moore through DJ Soul (DVS crew). Alyasha was a designer/graf writer from NYC that helped put Phat Farm on the map. When they met, he was working for Mecca USA, (whose headquarters are still in Kent, WA) and was working on his own line called Alphanumeric (under the same parent company). He offered to set up a meeting with Mecca. She scored an internship and during that time she created a youth program called Team Mecca. The program consisted of a small group of Seattle high school students that were selected to learn more about the fashion industry. Jojo coordinated weekly meetings with the students and the NY designers that came to Seattle for meetings.
After graduating from Seattle Central, Jojo's internship turned into a design position on the Mecca menswear team. She moved to the new San Diego office to assist the west coast Mecca designers. Her new job entailed traveling to Hong Kong and New York all year long.
A few years later she moved back to Seattle to work in womenswear at Sergio Valente Jeans. Then 9/11 hit and she took a break from the fashion business.
When Jojo returned she linked up with her design school friend, Carlisia Minnis, aka Mac, and designed the brand identity & marketing for her freelance company called Mac Fashion House. She also helped to coordinate Mac's fashion shows and promo events. Jojo did some fashion shows with her own avant garde pieces and continued to do fashion marketing and styling on the side. She did the styling for the Mixwell fashion show in Seattle that was put on by DJ Pryme Tyme. At this show she got DJs like DV One, Ace and Special T, to cut up the runway.
While promoting the Mixwell event at the DMC Battle, Jojo met up with Isaac Dyckhoff aka DJ Tecumseh, whom she knew from the Art Bar days. They immediately hit it off and and were happily married the following year. A couple of years later they decided to start a business that they could do together and so they founded Bamboo Beats Entertainment, a Mobile DJ and Production company. Jojo handles the marketing and event coordination and Isaac cuts all the music. Together they provide soulful sounds and hip lighting for weddings, parties and school dances.
In addition to Bamboo Beats, Jojo runs her own design business called LotusHaus Creative Services. Concerned with health, wellness and knowledge of self, she specializes in design & trend consulting for organic, eco-friendly and sustainable goods and services. With these two ventures, she embraces culture and style in order to do what she loves. She encourages all to do the same.
