Hailing from the wintry depths of Montreal, the members of Bananafish came together to bring a new sound and live experience to the city’s diverse music community. Through high energy shows and an eclectic mix of musical influences, Bananafish has set itself apart in more ways than one. Fusing elements of funk, jazz, progressive rock, and straight up rock ‘n’ roll, the band brings all of these components together into a live performance that doesn’t let up and will keep you on your feet the whole night. Each member phases in and out between rhythm and lead, taking charge from time to time but never taking a backseat. It is this sense of equality that brought these six together in the first place – and it continues to push them to new and often unexpected frontiers.
Bananafish independently released their self-titled EP in the Winter of 2009 and it is available for purchase at their shows, by mail-order & digital download (e-mail bananafishmontreal@gmail.com) or at Cheap Thrills in Montreal (2044 Metcalfe).

PRESS QUOTES:
"This relatively young Montreal-based six-piece, making waves in local progressive rock circles with their frequent live shows, expertly capture their in-studio sound on this excruciatingly short six-song EP. Drums, guitar and bass alternate rhythm and solo parts with sax and violin arrangements, creating a sonic palette reminiscent of great fusion and prog bands of the '70s. Starquasia winds fluidly as if the best moments of King Crimson's Cat Food were reinterpreted into a five-minute-long single; Shady Lane, replete with blistering fuzz guitar solos and an odd Latin feel, evokes the ballsier sound of modern fusion projects à la Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. Fans of Yes, Weather Report, Gong and the like should investigate." 4/5 stars

Bananafish [EP]
"You can definitely get your groove on with Bananafish!"
- Midnight Poutine (Montreal Podcast), June 2009
"this sextet is [...] jazz-oriented, culling significant influence from the fusion-heavy progressive rock of the seventies. Their compositions are entirely instrumental yet remarkably infectious. Well recorded and well executed, this EP is an impressive step forward for this young band."
- Indieville.com, October 2009
"For a good hour the band played, hardly taking a breath between songs and making it all look effortless. Overall, a dynamic band to keep an eye on."
- MeetYouAtTheShow.com, November 2009
"Bananafish seamlessly blends elements of rock, funk, jazz and soul into an instrumental tapestry unlike any other around. Their unique sound and consistently strong stage presence are pleasures to watch, hear and contemplate."
