I never told you the story of the Beaver Whacker have I? Well, I looked it up right after I got named and it's actually pretty interesting...
As you may know, the Iroquois Indians of the Pacific Northwest were big players in the fur trade, their primary wares being beaver pelts. While hunting they would often strike their prey repeatedly with a blunt paddle-like object to stun the creature and render it unconscious (the purpose of which was to kill the beaver without damaging the skin). This tool was the beaver whacker!
Naturally, since the fur trade was so important to the survival of their culture, the beaver and the idea of the hunt soon took on religious significance. As a result, the beaver whacker became more than just a tool but was also a symbol of their culture/a relic of sorts. In ancient ceremonies the Iroquois people would pray to the whacker before taking off on the hunt and upon their return would present their captures to it.
In some of the more rural cultures towards the coast, the beaver whacker's roll was more pivotal and even took on goddess status. The tribe would pray to the Whacker every morning and throughout the day at regular ten minute intervals time would be set aside to think about the Whacker and praise its grace and beauty.
As you might imagine, the splendidness of one's whacker became a status symbol of sorts. Intricate carvings and stories depicted the legend of the whacker and those with large whackers were often the most revered in the Iroquois nation.
The importance of the Beaver Whacker was also present in their vocabulary and dialect. If something was good it was often described and "beaver whackerish" or "beaver whackery." And common sayings such as, "May the Beaver Whacker be with you," "Long live Beaver Whacker," or "All hail Beaver Whacker, the coolest and most awesome of all supreme beings," were abundant and often used instead of hello or go
I know! I miss it... and you of course. (Awwww.... )
I've been working too hard. And then I didn't have a car for a week. And then, well, I shouldn't say anything but I sort of got asked to go on this top secret mission to save the world from itself. I used the amazing power of my energetic and vivacious spirt. It was sort of like something Pollyanna would do but instead of making a bunch of rainbows in some old ladies bedroom I took out a bunch of terrorists. It was pretty sweet.
But ya, screw that stuff. I want to drink beer and run. Okay, I just want to drink beer but I guess I'll run too.
Happy New Year Bananarama!!!! I hope to find some shiggy trails very soon - right after my most awesome Italian Ski vacation. I leave this Friday for 2 full weeks of fun an frolic in the snow:) ON ON!!!!!

Hey Nanners. Well, I did the 13 KM Frankenstein Castle run yesterday. The last 3K's were straight up. It was grueling - my first long race in forever - why I had to start out with 13 K's instead of 5 or 10, I don't know - guess I just did it for shits and grins. My legs are mush today:) Hope all is well on your end. Haven't heard from you in ages. Hollah back!!!
Hey Nana! Long time no speak! Is your project about wrapped up? I will finally have my very own IPOD - got the mount installed in my Mini Cooper - and I'll download your podcast so I can listen to it (and the Maha Rushie) on my way to and fro work. Things are looking up on this end! Will be doing a 13 KM run on Friday the 13th - it's the annual Frankenstein Castle run (only 3 KMs uphill thankfully). The Frankenstein Castle is great! There will also be a Haunted House in the castle itself -BEWARE!!!
Mega Germany Drizzle Dittos from 18-Squealer!

How's life treating ya? I can't complain. The other day I saw an ON-ON foot sticker on the back of someone's car. They are here in Heidelberg - AMEN!! Have a great weekend!
Dude...I ran those stairs yesterday - all 513 of them...ok, I cheated a bit and did 2 at a time. I ended up running with a coworker for over an hour. We went up into the hills - wooded trails. The weather was beautiful...I'm in love with Heidelberg!!!! It was great to get on the trails and let my legs go. Those stairs though....legs are spaghetti:)
Hey Banana Nana:) I'm glad you liked my blog about that Big Ass Hill! I'm working in Heidelberg now and there are LOTS of hills here:) I will be running some God forsaken steps up some hill with a group of runners every Tuesday! I don't know if I should laugh or cry. I'll let u know how that goes. Apparently there are over 500 steps up this one "mountain". If you don't hear from me within the week, I probably died!! On-on - "18 - xxxxx:)"~!
Bad, bad, bad, Banana! Only one "F" in my "F-in" name") Lol!!
No, haven't been "devirginized" yet - as far as the German H3 goes. Hopefully I'll catch a run soon - one coming up the beginning of June.
