The Brazilian Progressive Rock “ARION” band, has started their activities at the universitarian town of Viçosa – MG. Arose from the “Magma” band‘s embryo, founded in 1993, which members Thyaga (voice), Luciano Soares (guitar), Sergio Paolucci (keyboards), Carlos Linhares (bass) and Nelson Rosa (drums) were making their own music under the influence of regional music, MPB (Brasilian Popular Music) and Progressive Rock. With the entrance, in 1997, of the singer Tânia Braz, Thyaga has followed his theatre and regional music’s projects, and the group redirected their focus for what was actually, the initial idea of the band: the Progressive Rock! This way, the band was baptized (renamed) with it’s new and actual name “Arion”. In October 2001, the band introduced their first homonymous album, called “Arion”. This CD was very well accepted from the national and international critics and rendered to the group the premium of “Best Progressive Album of 2001” from the “Portal Rock Progressivo Brasil”. The group appeared in important international concerts and festivals, like the “Minas Prog Festival”, where shared the stage with the bands “Quidam” (Poland), “Tryo” (Chile), and “Xang” (France). In 2002 opened the first South American’s concert to the legend dutch band “Focus”, broadcasted to the wide Brazil TV. They were also invited to open the English 70’s group “Caravan” at the 9th “Rio Art Rock Festival” edition (RARF), which is reference at the progressive international circuit, featured every year at Rio de Janeiro – BR.
The group now is waiting for his Italian-Brazilian keyboardist Sérgio Paolucci (he lives in Italy, working and studying music) to record in 2009 a new album and make a serie of live concerts.
A banda mineira ARION, de rock progressivo iniciou suas atividades na cidade universitária de Viçosa - MG. Surgiu do embriao da banda Magma, fundada em 1993, cujos integrantes Thyaga (voz), Luciano Soares (guitarras), Sergio Paolucci (teclados), Carlos Linhares (baixo) e Nelson Rosa (bateria) faziam músicas próprias com influências da música regional, da MPB e do rock progressivo. Com a entrada em 1997 da cantora Tânia Braz,Thyaga seguiu seus projetos de teatro e musica regional, e o grupo redirecionou seu foco para o que era a idéia inicial da banda, ou seja, o rock progressivo. Assim a banda foi rebatizada com o novo e atual nome Arion. Em outubro de 2001 a banda lançou seu primeiro CD homônimo intitulado "Arion". Este CD foi muito bem recebido pela critica nacional e internacional e rendeu ao grupo o prêmio de melhor álbum progressivo de 2001 pelo portal Rock Progressivo Brasil.
O grupo realizou shows importantes apresentando-se em concertos e festivais internacionais como o festival Minas Prog, onde dividiu o palco com as bandas: Quidam (Polônia), Tryo (Chile), Xang (França). Em 2002 abriu o primeiro show na América do sul para a lendária banda holandesa Focus, transmitido para todo o Brasil pela Rede Minas de Televisão. Foi também convidado para abrir o show do grupo setentista ingles Caravan na 9ª edição do Rio Art Rock Festival-RARF, que é referência no circuito progressivo internacional realizado todos os anos no Rio de Janeiro.
O grupo agora em 2009 espera o retorno do tecladista Italo-Brasileiro Sérgio Paolucci (que mora na Itália, onde trabalha e estuda música) pra gravar o segundo Cd e fazer uma série de concertos com o material do primeiro e segundo Cds.
