O Sopa estreiou em outubro de 2005 na Faculdade de Artes do Paraná, em Curitiba, um mês depois tornou-se residente no bar e espaço cultural Aoca,onde permaneceu por sete meses. No fim de 2006, lançou seu primeiro EP contendo 4 músicas: “Mosca”, “Oras Bolas”, “Quase Quase” e “Carrossel”. Se apresentou em diversas casas noturnas, festas e eventos universitários de Curitiba, nas quatro últimas edições do festival Psicodália e em cidades do interior do Paraná e Santa Catarina. Em março de 2007 é lançado o álbum SOPA, primeiro disco independente do grupo.
Entre suas muitas referências estão Mutantes, Tom Zé e o movimento tropicalista, Gong, Frank Zappa, Tom Waits, etc... O grupo mistura os mais diversos instrumentos, que vão do violino à gaita de boca, passando por percussões, xilofones, violão, teclados, flautas, trompete entre outros. Combinando letras psicodélicas com os mais diferentes ritmos brasileiros, passando pelo rock psicodélico, progressivo, música caipira e jazz, a banda Sopa promove misturas inusitadas e surpreendentes.

Sopa emerges in Brazilian scene producing an artistic music without labels. It brings in its compositions magic and psychedelic effects, to build different sound sceneries in each one. Among its many references are Os Mutantes, Tom Zé with the tropicalist trend, The Beatles, Gong, Frank Zappa, Tom Waits, and others.
Sopa is an inventive, unresting, and creative band. Its songs are composed by a spontaneous way mixing many and different instruments as violin, harmonica, a lot of percussion, xylophones, guitar, keyboards, flute, trumpet, among others. All this variety is blended to psychedelic lyrics in search of a perfect and original sound. The result are the most different Brazilian beats in peculiar mixtures with psychedelic rock, progressive rock, Brazilian folk, and jazz.
The band had its première in 2005 in Curitiba at one of most important arts college in the south of Brazil. In 2006 the band released its first EP with 4 tracks, and in 2008 it has released its first independent album.
Along 3 years of existence, Sopa has been playing at theaters, festivals, and bars around the country with the main goal of expanding its own limits
