RECRUITING!!! RECRUITING!!!
We are now taking applications for folks intrested in becoming band members. Learn to play the pipes or drums, make new lifelong friends, be in parades. To join you must be a current/retired IAFF member or related to one. You will be required to petition your union for some start up costs (or pay out of pocket) and assist on other fund raising activities. So contact one of the departments listed or leave a message. We look forward to hearing from you.
Formerly the Hammond Fire Dept. Pipes and Drums this page is a contact point and place to comunicate with our fans and others interested in learning about the band.
It is the band's dearest wish that we can provide comfort and help in the healing process for the families of our brethren. We hope to honor the memories of those who have given their lives to serve the public, whether they are police or firefighter, paid or volunteer through our music.
We also enjoy playing more festive occasions as well. We do several area parades but our busiest time is around St. Patrick's Day. There are also events around the country that we try to perform such as Colorado Springs or FDIC.
I am one of the bass drum players. I also moderate this page. I post material from several different sources so if you have our pic, email it to me. I can use the help.
The band is composed entirely of firefighters from the Chicagoland and NW Indiana areas. The following departments have members in the band:
Hammond, Schererville, Gary, Hobart, Calumet City, Frankfort, and Naperville.
I would like to take this time out to acknowledge a dear friend and founding member who passed away on March 19th 2007. He was an instructor to many pipers in this area as well as a Chicago Emerald Society member, Shriner piper and mentor. Retired Illinois State Police Officer Chester Milen will be missed by all who knew him. His music no doubt touched many lives and he always had a smile and kind word.
So long Chester, we hardly knew ye...
Who I'd like to meet: So long Capt. Broxterman and FF Schira, we hardly knew ye... Most touching service I've ever participated in.
Don't forget Lake Co. Sherriff's pipes and drums is holding their annual fundraiser "Kops In Kilts" on May 3rd. Be there at the Lake Co. Fairgrounds in Crown Point to see some really talented bands play. Good times and great music!
