Totemic was created to showcase the integration of organic, tribal instruments with mainstream artists with no regards for genre boundaries. The concept takes age old instruments and merges them with western musicians of present to create the sound of the future. What separates Totemic from a typical world music band is the Aboriginal didgeridoo player Wayne Warwick Williams. Wayne’s dynamic didgeridoo can be heard every day in the latest Outback Steak House TV and Radio revamp ad campaign. Wayne’s creativity is redefining the world of popular music as we know it by blending the didgeridoo with modern rhythms. Accompanying him is James 'Bongo Jim' Joseph, dynamic and energetic, whose synergy and dedication to the groove is undeniable. The natural energy they project during a live performance will have you intoxicated with culture and fueled with passion to experience all things native.
Wayne Warwick-Williams ( didgeridoo player)- Born in Central Queensland Australia, he came to America to create awareness, educate and preserve one of the world’s oldest living cultures, the Australian Aborigines. Wayne himself of Aboriginal decent is credited with fusing one of the world’s oldest living instruments with the modern rhythms of today’s music. Wayne’s genius use of the didgeridoo is redefining popular music. His unique style of playing has created a new genre of music featuring beats from grass roots to hip-hop, combined it with high energy tribal drum rhythms that make a sound that is truly one of a kind. Wayne’s ear popping performances display infectious grooves that create a raw energy reflecting the Australian Aboriginal culture that surrounds him. One of his main goals is to validate the didgeridoo as a mainstream entity. His debut album, entitled "Djun Djetti", is not only an eclectic range of didgeridoo music but it makes it evident of his mastery of this ancient instrument and connection to his Aboriginal roots and mother earth. Wayne’s experiences included performing for the United Nations, The Fossibles cartoon, Sonaysts Studios (www.thefossibles.com), New Coffee Forum on CPTV, 91.7 WHUS Radio, 91.3 WWUH Radio, 107 WCCC Radio Mardi Gras, 90.1 WECS Radio, Hard Rock Café, Mohegan Casino, Outback Steak House Radio and Television Ads, Universities/ Educational Institutions around the globe. Additional appearances include CNN, BBC World and London Tonight, as well as several fundraiser and local performances. James 'Bongo' Joseph (percussion), a New England native, has studied Afro Cuban drumming under Mr. Richard ‘Binky’ Osborne of the Sherry Winston Band and Mr. Angel Rodriguez , creator of the ‘Living Legend Series’ and the ‘Mambo to Hip Hop Tour’ (Bronx, NY) . A musician of 15 yrs, James has forged a 'utility' role with the artists/bands he's worked with. A singer/songwriter in his own right, although specializing in the utility position, James will play any number of instruments in a gig situation, including, but not limited to, guitar, harmonica, vocals and piano, as well as an array of percussion instuments often simultaneously in one song. His soulful rhythms and unique style make him the perfect compliment and component for Totemic. James has performed for 10yrs in key musical venues in New York City, including The Bitter End, Knitting Factory, CBGB's, Trash Bar, and more. His insatiable thirst for music has taken him around the country, 4yrs playing in San Diego where he studied under musician/composer/producer Allen Phillips, even playing between surf sessions at popular wave destinations around the world. His credits include work on over 20 albums, appearances on CNN, BBC World, London Tonight, New Coffee Forum CPTV, 106.9 WCCC Radio (Hartford) 99.1 WPLR Radio (New Haven) and the honor of sharing the stage with jazz great Joe Beck.
