A tight-knit group of versatile young musicians with wide-ranging tastes, The Bandulos pull songs from every decade and genre, asking only, "Does it have a good beat? And can you dance to it?"
From '60s soul and rock'n'roll, '70s funk and disco, '80s pop, and ‘90s hip-hop and R&B, to reggae classics and jazz standards, The Bandulos dig up the finest musical gems, dust them off and polish them up for your dancing pleasure.
The band's super-tight rhythm section is augmented by keyboards, two trumpets, saxophone, and male and female vocals. The group is equally adept at performing three-minute pop songs and extended improvisational jams.
Besides their musical skill, it's the band's unrivaled catalog of songs that earns the most praise from the audience. Younger and older crowds alike love the band's mix of golden pop standards like "I Saw Her Standing There," "Respect," "Brown-Eyed Girl," and "Billie Jean," while the kids can't get enough of more recent nuggets like "Welcome to Jamrock," "No One," and "Crazy In Love." And The Bandulos surprise everyone with their clever live mash-ups and jazz-funk instrumentals.
The band's members all hail from Staten Island's South Shore, and a few have been performing together for over a decade. In the past some members have performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Giants Stadium, and Walt Disney World.
The current lineup was solidified in the summer of 2006, and since then The Bandulos have established themselves as the go-to cover band, playing numerous community events, weddings, private functions, and regular bar and club gigs all over the Island as well as in Manhattan, Brooklyn, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire.
Not content to be pigeon-holed, however, The Bandulos are NYC's only breakbeat band, playing heavy funk breaks and riffs for breakdance competitions and showcases, including a memorial event for the late b-boy legend Frosty Freeze, a member of the famous Rock Steady Crew who appeared in the 1983 movie Flashdance.
The group also serves as a backing band for Milton Henry, a Jamaican-born veteran reggae singer who has recorded and performed with some of reggae's biggest names, including Lee "Scratch" Perry and the Meditations. The band has also backed the Trinidadian duo 2NTRIGUE and local rappers The Dead End Kids.
The Bandulos are available for parties, weddings, fundraisers, and corporate events, as well as bar and nightclub gigs.
