Bangalore took off when Phil Kaplan ( Men & Volts, Fabulous Roys, Funeral Barkers) and Sven Larson (Toni Lynn Washington, Tom Hambridge, Nicole Nelson) decided that their long standing instrumental trio needed to expand in order to achieve their vision of a new rhythm heavy Mississippi/Ganges/Niger Delta dance music. Some pieces are through-composed, some are largely improvised over a skeleton vamp/groove, some endeavor to present overtly the influences that animate the band, specifically American Funk, R&B, Rock and Roll, Hindustani raga, West African (Ewe) drumming, James Brown, Television, Rolling Stones, Talking Heads, Miles Davis, rush-hour traffic jams and trout fishing in mid-western Canada.
The new lineup consists of some of the area's most creative and skilled players bringing their respective influences and top shelf musicianship to the table.
