BaNg bAnG! is a regular queer girls night in Glasgow. We put on our launch night in May at The Ivy (Basement), 157 North St, Charing X and have now taken up a regular(-ish) slot every third Thursday of the month.
We will be DJing at a spooktacular Halloween extravaganza at Flying Duck, 31st October. Bridget Hayden, Vom, Plaque Terror, Nalle, Radiation Line Vs. Mills and Boon, a host of terrifying DJs and horror, horror, horror. For full details, visit our mates at www.myspace.com/christmastimeinthemountains..
We are inspired by Ladyfest discos and gigs, female musicians and artists and aim to provide an alternative to the commercial and mainstream clubscene for queer girls and their friends. We wanna encourage lasses to get down with the sounds, hang loose, chill, chat, meet, get drunk, dance, be themselves and contribute to a more eclectic and vibrant club/music scene in Glasgow.
We play mainly indie, punk, electro/electronica, new wave, no wave, world beats, garage, art rock, riot girl, the wierd, the wonderful... We totally respect female bands and artists like Erase Errate, M.I.A., No Bra, Le Tigre, Slits, Poison Girls but expect anything from the retro sounds of 60s grrrl bands, like The Velvelettes, to the grandmammy of experiment, Yoko Ono. Basically, no X-Factoresque shite and definitely NO COCK ROCK.
Who I'd like to meet: Yoko Ono, Little Edie Beale, Delphine Seyrig, Siouxsie Sioux, Diamanda Galas, Mary Margaret O'Hara, Poison Ivy, Kathleen Hanna, PJ Harvey, Courtney Love, Ari Up, JD Samson, Peaches, M.I.A., Samantha Morton, Suzan Pitt...
