Banter was an original rock band in the late 20th and early 21st centuries based in the Northeast United States featuring Dan Sheehan on guitar, vocals and songwriting along with drummer Joe Smith and various bass players and 2nd guitarists. The band released 2 albums, SIDE ONE (1996) and URBAN PASTURES (2002), which received college and commercial airplay as well as receiving multiple top-ten chart placements on various music websites based in th U.S. and Europe. BANTER played their last show in July, 2004 in Boston, MA. Sheehan currently records and performs with The Dan Sheehan Conspiracy, while Joe Smith writes children's books in Houston, TX.
In 2009 3 ex-Banter members (Sheehan, Smith, and touring bassist Elizabeth Walsh) performed a set of Banter and Dan Sheehan Conspiracy tunes as Dan Sheehan & The Banter All-Stars at the Red Gorilla Music Festival in Austin, TX.
