Island Bar is not your typical cocktail bar. Set up on DIY ethics, and with the intention of injecting a little glamour, a lot of soul and absolutely no pretensions into the Birmingham nightlife scene, the bar have proved a hub for music and drink lovers alike.
We’ve taken away all of the stuffy nonsense of traditional cocktail bars, taken away snobby dress codes, and offered something for an alternative generation with an increasing interest in drinks and love of music.
Our 100 capacity upstairs room hosts club nights by the city’s best promoters from This Is Tomorrow through to Tropical Hotdog (hosted by local band Sunset Cinema Club), and has seen the bar host a number of up and coming bands such as Johnny Foreigner, Wave Machines and Tubelord, with lots more booked for 09.
2007 saw Island win Best Bar, Best Cocktail Bar & Best Bar Team at the Birmingham Bar and Club awards, and in 2008 were runner up in the Birmingham Best Bar category in music paper ‘Night Times’.
