Barack Obama was raised by a single mother and his grandparents. They didn't have much money, but they taught him values from the Kansas heartland where they grew up. He took out loans to put himself through school. After college, he worked for Christian churches in Chicago, helping communities devastated when steel plants closed.
Obama turned down lucrative job o?ers after law school to return to Chicago, leading a successful voter registration drive. He will also expand unemployment insurance, create a universal mortgage credit for every American who owns a home, and revise the tax code to enable Americans to file their tax returns in 5 minutes. He will invest in U.S. manufacturing, reduce the self-employment tax, strengthen international trade agreements and level the playing field for American businesses.
3. He opposed the war before it began. As President he will redeploy all combat troops out of Iraq within 16 months. He will press Iraq’s leaders to reconcile, launch a vigorous diplomatic effort to bring stability to the Middle East, and provide our veterans with the care they deserve.
4. He will restore America’s standing in the world. Obama is the only candidate who supports tough, direct presidential diplomacy with Iran and other countries. He will close Guantanamo, restore habeas corpus, and finish the fight against Al Queda. As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Obama has been a leading voice to prevent the spread of weapons of mass destruction and stop the genocide in Darfur.

P.S. My vote was placed last Wednesday evening. I voted at the municipal building in downtown Atlanta. You'd have been proud of the turnout---I was. It was inspiring! Lots of people of all backgrounds. I've never seen so many motivated, passionate voters! A great deal were young 1st timers. I was elated and the (almost) 3 hours it took simply flew by!!! I'd had only 3 hours sleep the night before and a very long day. But I counted it all a blessing. Wish I could do more.
I am so profoundly saddened by your loss. She was a great lady without a doubt, to have helped to raise such a phenomenal man. We grieve with you and yours. She remains with you in all you accomplish and forever in your heart. We owe her a great debt. Our Lord is lucky to have her with him now, as she suffers no more...Much Love and my deepest sympathy goes out to you and yours.
