I was fortunate to be able to grow up seeing America from varied viewpoints. My childhood was spent in Hawaii and Indonesia. After college I worked as a community organizer on the South side of Chicago focusing on improving living conditions in poor neighborhoods.
I came to understand that to truly solve the problems facing our communities, it would take a change in our laws and our politics. I ran and served for seven years in the Illinois state Senate, where I fought for expanding children's health care, providing tax cuts for the working poor and enacting welfare reform. In 2004, I was elected to the U.S. Senate, where I have worked to pass laws securing dangerous weapons and making government more accountable. I have also opposed the Iraq war from the start, and believe that we need to bring our troops home so we can refocus on the wider struggle against terrorism.
Of all my life experiences, I am most proud of my wife Michelle and my daughters Malia and Sasha.
I work for the State of Maine Department of Health and Human Services. I determine eligibility for Maine families and individuals to receive Medicaid. This $5000 tax credit for families to purchase Private Health Insurance that McCain proposes has a major drawback that no one is addressing. Call Private Health Insurance companies across the US. Check what the monthly familyn premium payments are. Then see how much in addition to the premium payments, the family has for a deductible that they have to meet before any bills get paid by that policy. $5000 will not cover it I can assure that. How can a man such as McCain, say he is for the American People with an idea as such. It is common knowledge that group policies have lower premium payments then individual policies. I do not think McCain, realizes that American people can't afford to live on what they make and definately do not have additional funds for high deductibles. McCain's proposal for healthcare, will in fact add to the economic crisis that Americans are facing today. nPeople will put these high deductibles on credit cards,, and still not be able to pay them.
Thank you for the comment! I have never been passionate about politics, but when I heard Obama's speech, it serously moved me, and I think that its time that we get someone in the White House that knows what he is doing, and will bring change to this country!
WE ARE THE WORLD AND YOU WILL LEAD US TO A BRIGHTER TOMORROW< THERE'S A "CHOICE" WE'RE MAKING, WE'RE CHANGING OUR OWN LIVES, IT'S TRUE WE MAKE A BETTER DAY JUST YOU AND ME! UNITED WE CAN DO IT> DIVIDED WE FALL!
i've recieved many requests to put together another hike for hope for those who do not want to go it alone here in new england. I've heard your requests and will plan another hike for those intersted. Please let me what days of the week everyone can go, i am leaning toward a saturday, since that is the day megan and i can most likely go... i also am open to ideas for mountains to hike in NH , we did monadnok and that is a fairly easy mountain, but there are other ones. keep in mind we want it to be a frequently climbed (monadnok is #2 in the world) and near a good size town w/ lots of voters.
for those of you who are not in the area, or cannot make it when we plan it for, please try to get one together with your friends in a battle ground state if possible.
thanks everyone, for joining, spreading the message, hiking for hope, and voting for obama!
Barack Obama promises to honor the best traditions of both parties. He has inspired us, he has raised our hopes and rallied us to higher purpose. He gives us the ability to TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY..!
The time is now! Fight with us! Fight with all you can muster! Let us blow past the walls of ignorance and intolerance!
The choice is clear; our cause is just; and now is our time to make Barack Obama the next President of the United States. Like Reagan once said, "If not us who? If not now when?"
I live in Calais & if there's anything I can do in my area I'd be happy to. I haven't used to the volunteer tool because I'm not old enough to vote, although if I was Obama would have my vote.
