Loud is not always bad; Baracuda Batucada, one of the hottest CCAs in Ngee Ann Polytechnic at the moment, shows why.
They are unmistakably the loudest group of people to have ever thronged Canteen One during lunchtime. Armed with swinging beats and snazzy rhythms, the polytechnic’s Baracuda Batucada is set to rock the campus always.
The Baracuda is made up of four sections: the Djembe (hand percussions), the Surdos (basses), the snares, and the Barang Barang (tambourines, agogo bells, handbells).
Since its formation back in 2003, Baracuda Batucada, the first ever Batucada (Brazilian Samba percussion) group to be founded in a polytechnic, has received varied reactions from their audience.
The 35-member strong group grew from a humble three-man team five years ago. Currently, the group is largely made up of freshmen, though their seniors and alumni members do help out.
