BARAK, Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)3 community arts organization based in Harrisburg, PA. Our mission is to educate, entertain, and enrich lives through performing and visual arts events and activities that celebrate diversity and stimulate community action while upholding and reinforcing universal moral principles.
BARAK is a non-profit arts based community service organization established to educate, entertain, and enrich lives through performing arts that celebrate diversity and stimulate community action while upholding and reinforcing universal moral principles.
Founded in 1999 by Wendell C. Murray, BARAK has developed from a small performance team with its primary focus and constituency being the faith-based community, to an arts-based community service organization through which its programming targets a more diverse representation of the community. BARAK continues to grow and provide effective leadership within our community through innovative programming, helping our youth to realize their potential artistically, personally and as constructive members of the community, and by continuing to foster relationships and activities that break down cultural barriers.
Who I'd like to meet: Voices of Youth Mural Project
The Voices of Youth program is an integrated mural arts program that will combine art and mural-making skills with intensive team-building and conflict resolution workshops for youth between the ages of 10 and 18. VOY lessons intend to help youth participants become creative thinkers, while also providing them with skills in problem solving and teamwork. Students work extensively on group projects with other students, artists, the community, and other facets of BARAK. Experienced artists and educators teach lessons about murals and other artistic disciplines. Each summer, Voices of Youth sites will have the opportunity to work with a professional muralist on a large-scale mural.
